As of June 2024, 12 WA local governments have signed Memorandum of Understanding to progress projects under the TUPP, this will provide around 51,000 properties with a future-focused, safer and more reliable power supply. Western Power is committed to continuing to work with the State Government, Local Governments and the community to deliver the many benefits of underground power. Benefits of underground power • Improved public safety with new streetlighting • Improved network resilience to environmental factors, resulting in fewer unplanned power outages • Reduced tree pruning around powerlines resulting in greener streetscapes • Lower maintenance and operating costs • Increased property values with fewer poles and wires and more attractive streets • Provides greater power supply capacity, facilitating the connection of renewables.

underground providing numerous benefits to Western Australians and strengthening network resilience, enabling greater renewable energy sources and increasing electrification. More than 108,000 properties have been converted to underground power through State Government supported underground power programs. In FY25 Western Power completed underground power projects in the cities of Cockburn and Bayswater, delivering underground power to about 4000 residents. In Maylands we removed more than 400 power poles and 24km of overheard wires and installed 374 LED streetlights transforming streetscapes and improving network resilience to weather impacts. In South Lake East 300 power poles and 14kms of overhead cables were removed and 170 new LED streetlights installed. These projects marked the completion of the State Underground Power Program (SUPP) which has been replaced by the Targeted Underground Power Program (TUPP) which is focused on delivering underground power where it is most needed throughout the network.

In the 2024/25 FY we commenced construction of projects in the cities of Vincent, Stirling and Nedlands.

These projects delivered underground power to around 4,400 residents with over 1,600 poles and 67kms of overhead cable removed and around 1,170 new LED streetlights installed across North Perth, Mount Hawthorn, Doubleview and Nedlands.

We also continued work on our South Perth Hurlingham project which will see

1,575 customers converted with 371 poles and 21kms of overhead cable removed and 305 new LED streetlights once complete.
