Medical Missionary Comments (continued from page 22) FRED ’48 and DOROTHY (RICH TER ’47) WALDOCK, Assam: As well as their teaching ministry, Fred and Dorothy are continuing the out patient leprosy clinics in Tripura. They write: “ These clinics will serve as a main approach to reach ing the people with the Gospel both now and when we move.” F R O M M E X IC O : JUDITH STEED ’49, Mexico, D.F.: “ Sick-call was every morning. Some days we had many sick folks; others less; and some days brought only one or two people. Worms, diarrhea, measles, common colds and stomach aches comprised the majority of cases. There were three severe machete cuts.” F R O M P E R U : EILEEN ELLIOTT ’58, P e r u : “ Really, 1 can’t begin to tell you how much that one year of training (Biola School of Missionary Medi ciné) is meaning to me now! I’ve already had some trys at teeth pull ing and digging for roots!” F R O M ECU AD OR : JOHN and JOYCE STUCK ’56 Ecuador: “ John continues with his teeth pulling off and on, and has pulled 37 teeth altogether. Our first responsibility is to study Jívaro, but we are also in the clinic 5 mornings a week from 9-11. The Doctor found out that I had taken laboratory, and tropical diseases at Biola, and so he asked me if l would be willing to type all the workers ( national) at hospitals, and the missionaries, so that if an emergency came, we would have the types of the people.” They also gave transfusions to a surgical case who the Doctor said, would have died had she not had the transfusion, “So you can see why we're thankful again for BIOLA SCHOOL OF MISSIONARY MEDI CINE.” F R O M H O U IV IA : CHARLES and Jean RAMSEY, Rolivia: “ There is a lot of Tubercu losis among the Indians. I am try ing to get enough medicines to treat them. TB is one of the scourges of primitive peoples. One of the great killers is measles. The instructions I received there (Biola School of Mis sionary Medicine) certainly was a help and blessing to us on the field. A lot of my work is along medical lines.” B E V E R L Y HENDRICKS ’55, Wewak: “ 1 have treated several bad cases of tropical ulcers and yaws, and of course malaria is ever pres ent. W e are having considerable sickness here now—mainly the flu. When the natives becomes quite ill, they leave their villages and hide in the bush — it’s quite a problem when you want to help them.”
