Lois R. Hine, PhD, RN, CNE Department Chair RN-BSN Sumner College 8338 NE Alderwood Rd #100 Portland, OR 97220
Dear Dr. Hine,
On behalf of the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), I am pleased to advise you that the CCNE Board of Commissioners reviewed the information resulting from the in-person verification visit conducted on April 30, 2024, pertaining to the baccalaureate degree program in nursing at Sumner College, and determined that the program has satisfied CCNE’s in-person verification visit requirement. No reporting by the program is required related to that visit. As you know, the in-person verification visit was conducted as a follow-up to CCNE’s comprehensive accreditation evaluation of the baccalaureate program, which was conducted virtually on January 20-22, 2021. In an effort to support accreditors’ continuity plans during the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) issued guidance to all recognized accrediting agencies (including CCNE) on March 17, 2020. This guidance stated, in part, “If an accreditor employs a virtual site visit, the agency must perform a follow-up, in-person visit to the campus … within a reasonable period of time following the virtual site visit.” Thank you for working with CCNE to complete this process. As a reminder, all programs are expected to comply with the CCNE standards and procedures that are in effect throughout the period of accreditation. This includes advising CCNE in the event of a substantive change affecting the nursing program. Substantive change notifications must be submitted to CCNE no earlier than 90 days prior to implementation or occurrence of the change, but no later than 90 days after implementation or occurrence of the change. These reporting requirements are described further in the Procedures for Accreditation of Baccalaureate and Graduate Nursing Programs (2023). The Commissioners join me in expressing our best wishes as you proceed with tasks important to the future of your nursing program.
Sincerely,
Philip R. Martinez, Jr., EdD, MSN, APRN-BC, CCRN-CMC Chair, Board of Commissioners
