NUR433 Course Outcome 6: Plan for mental wellbeing that is culturally appropriate for diverse patient populations The BSN and RN-BSN tracks include a final capstone practicum experience. The BSN practicum includes a 210-hour capstone clinical experience providing direct patient care. The RN-BSN practicum includes 120 hours of direct patient care. The student’s assigned faculty member is responsible for evaluating the student’s performance and all associated assignments completed during the practicum experience. Throughout the practicum students will prepare a weekly journal discussing how they have met course outcomes or shown understanding or mastery, how they have demonstrated the new role as a baccalaureate generalist nurse and what changes they see in this new role from practicing at the associate degree level, reflect on how they have grown as a professional nurse, developed confidence or self-image in the new role, and describe what changes they are experiencing.
Both the BSN and RN-BSN tracks include direct-care experiences in all four spheres of care.
NUR324 Holistic Health Assessment and Health Promotion includes an assignment – holistic health assessment and health promotion. This assignment is focused on well-being and disease prevention. The students work with an individual to assess and prepare a patient-centered health promotion plan. The students assess health belief, lifestyle, spiritual, family and family history, physical health, nutritional health, stress and emotional health, pain, support system, emergency preparedness, and environment. Once they have completed the assessment the student and patient work together on a patient-centered health promotion plan. The plan must include two areas of focus. Two weeks later the student meets with the person again for a follow-up visit to evaluate progress towards outcomes and revise the plan as needed. NUR322 Nutrition for Nursing Practice includes a nutritional assessment and health plan assignment. This assignment focuses on the sphere chronic disease care. During week 6 the students identify and work with a person who has a chronic disease or condition. The students perform a thorough nutritional assessment including anthropometric, biochemical, medications, clinical, dietary data, and medical-psychosocial history. The student and patient discuss the assessment findings and prepare a nutrition plan to assist the person in management of the chronic disease or disorder. Three weeks later the students meet with the person again to perform a follow-up on the progress toward the nutrition plan outcomes. The students also provide additional resources and adjust the plan as needed. NUR326 Community and Public Health Nursing includes an assignment – community resources for older adults through end-of-life. This assignment focuses on hospice/palliative/supportive care. The students assess the healthcare needs of an older adult and identify community resources available to meet those needs as they progress with aging through end of life. The student prepares in advance by identifying community resources for older adults including online information on advance directives and healthcare services available to support the older adult through end-of-life.
