Dear Dr. Poulakis,
On behalf of the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), I am writing to inform you that the CCNE Board of Commissioners reviewed the continuous improvement progress report (CIPR) submitted on May 30, 2024, by the baccalaureate degree program in nursing at Sumner College, and the follow-up report submitted on October 28, 2024, and as a result of its review determined that additional reporting is required. The CIPR and follow-up report were assessed using the 2018 CCNE Standards for Accreditation of Baccalaureate and Graduate Nursing Programs that were in effect at the time of the report submission. The Board determined that the baccalaureate degree program in nursing has demonstrated compliance with Key Elements III-G, III-H, and IV-G, but identified a new compliance concern for Key Element I-H.
The Board directs the baccalaureate degree program in nursing to demonstrate compliance with Key Element I-H, as follows:
Demonstrate that documents and publications are accurate (Key Element I-H in 2018 Standards crosswalks to Key Element I-H in 2024 Standards ). Specifically, published statements regarding disclosure of CCNE accreditation status, including use of the CCNE accreditation seal, must be accurate. If a program chooses to publicly disclose its CCNE accreditation status, it must use one of the statements provided in the CCNE Standards (p. 7). The disclosures of CCNE accreditation found at https://www.sumnercollege.edu/, https://www.sumnercollege.edu/accreditation/, https://www.sumnercollege.edu/rn-to-bsn-program/, and https://www.sumnercollege.edu/bachelor-of-science-in-nursing/ do not use one of the statements provided in the CCNE Standards . The onus is on the program to ensure that all accreditation disclosures use one of the statements provided. Recognizing that the baccalaureate degree program submitted a self-study document addressing all standards and key elements, including Key Element I-H, on January 19, 2026, and is scheduled to host a comprehensive on-site evaluation on March 2-4, 2026, no separate report is required at this time . The CCNE Accreditation Review Committee and Board of Commissioners will consider the self-study document and other materials related to the comprehensive evaluation during their respective meetings. In the event that the program wishes to provide supplementary information addressing the baccalaureate program’s compliance with Key Element I-H, please
