A Life Reclaimed DISCOVER YOUR TRUE SELF WITH ‘UNTAMED’ We are proud to introduce our new associate attorney with the Law Offices of Elliot Kanter! Carolyn Barbadoro received her undergraduate degree from the College of William and Mary and her law degree from Wake Forest University School of Law. Carolyn gained significant litigation experience in her 10 years as a public defender in San Diego, where she vigorously advocated on her clients’ behalf by conducting preliminary hearings, trying cases to verdict, and negotiating favorable dispositions. She served in that role well, but she also safeguarded the rights of juvenile delinquency clients for over three years. Before joining the firm, Carolyn served as the minor’s counsel and guardian ad litem for juvenile dependents at Children’s Legal Services. In her spare time, Carolyn enjoys spending quality time with her family, playing soccer, and decorating cakes. Welcome to our family, Carolyn. We are excited to have you!

still struggling with a sense of restlessness and dissatisfaction until she fell in love with a woman who changed everything for her. It was then that she confronted her true self. Throughout “Untamed,” Doyle’s brutal honesty is her greatest strength. It’s between the two covers that she shares her mistakes, struggles, and doubts. With sheer authenticity, she relates to each of us on a personal
“Untamed” by Glennon Doyle just recently made it to the top of my “must- read” list. Whether you’re looking for leadership advice, an empowered
outlook on life, or an inspirational memoir, this one is for you. In a world that often imposes constraints and expectations, “Untamed” is a breath of fresh air, a manifesto that encourages all readers to break free from societal norms and embrace their authentic selves. This light read cracks open so many internal and emotional doors and gets the internal dialogue within yourself flowing. Doyle uses raw vulnerability and insightful storytelling of self-discovery to resonate with readers of all different backgrounds, experiences, professions, and cultures. I believe it’s a powerful and transformative literary work worth adding to your digital or physical book collection. The book begins by recounting her seemingly idyllic life — a successful career, a loving family, and societal approval. But while she seemed to “have it all,” she was
level. Her concept of the “Caged” people in this world and the “Untamed” serves as a powerful metaphor for all of the struggles we face in our careers, families, relationships, and marriages. But I feel that this book isn’t just a metaphor; it’s also a call to action to examine our lives, question our choices, and ask ourselves if we are leading the authentic lives we dream of. It urges us to confront our fears, step out of our comfort zones, and chase our dreams. “Untamed” is an inclusive and compelling read — I highly recommend that you add it to your list. If you do, let me know what you think!

Unleash the Magic 5 UNEXPECTED USES FOR DRYER SHEETS
it to soak. The silicone coating on the dryer sheet will help to soften and remove all the crusted food and particles left behind. REMOVE PET HAIR FROM CLOTHES AND FURNITURE. If you have pets or visit a friend with pets, then you likely know the hassle of being carpeted in dog or cat hair. The same properties that reduce static on your clothes in the dryer are perfect for helping lift fur off your clothes and furniture. Just take a clean dryer sheet and wipe the area to loosen the hair. Then, follow up with a lint roller. FRESHEN UP SHOES. Nobody likes the funk of well-used sneakers and dress shoes. If your shoes have gotten a little ripe over time, add a scented dryer
sheet to each one before returning them to your gym bag or shoe rack. Just remember to remove the sheets before slipping them on! CLEAN YOUR CAR. There’s nothing worse than having a bunch of dead bugs all over your vehicle’s windshield and grill after a road trip. Dryer sheets have abrasive properties that are strong enough to remove the insects but are still gentle enough not to damage the paint and finish on your car. It’s a win-win! REMOVE SOAP SCUM. If soap scum coats your shower door and the corners of your tub or shower, use a damp dryer sheet to wash away the soap residue. It also works on hard water stains. The result is a sparkly clean shower without harsh chemicals!
Dryer sheets, thin pieces of fabric coated with softeners, fragrances, and lubricants, are a game-changer when it comes to freshening and softening your laundry! However, did you know these thin sheets of magic can also work wonders in your kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom? Check out some of these awesome dryer sheet hacks! CLEAN YOUR POTS AND PANS. It’s a real bummer when you have food stuck to a kitchen pot or frying pan. The next time you have food caked to one of your pans, place an unused dryer sheet in the bottom of the cookware, fill it with hot water, and allow
HOW TO NAVIGATE BUSES AND SCHOOL ZONES WITH CARE Back-to-School Safety:
SCHOOL ZONE SAFETY School zones require extra caution due to the increased pedestrian traffic and potential congestion in and around them. Obey speed limits. Most school zones have reduced speed limits during specific hours when students arrive at and depart from school. Adhering to these limits ensures you have enough time to react to unexpected dangerous situations. Remember, no passing. Passing other vehicles in school zones is generally prohibited. This rule helps maintain a controlled and safe environment for children near schools and school buses. Yield and obey crossguards. Be sure to always yield the right-of-way to pedestrians at crosswalks and respect the direction of school crossing guards — they have everyone’s safety in mind! As responsible members of the community, it’s our duty to make sure our kids are safe going to and from school every day. Happy back-to- school season!
As the new school year approaches, it’s essential to refresh your understanding of bus and school zone safety. With an influx of students and increased traffic around schools, taking extra precautions is paramount to ensure the safety of all young kids, pedestrians, and drivers. BUS SAFETY When it comes to school buses, there are specific rules and guidelines to follow to keep everyone safe. Stop for school buses. If a school bus is stopped with its red lights flashing and the stop arm extended, all vehicles moving in both directions must come to a complete stop to allow students to get on or off the bus safely. Maintain a safe distance. Be sure to keep a proper following distance (about 3–4 car lengths) behind any school bus to allow for ample time to stop if the bus suddenly halts or turns. Stay alert. Children may not be paying attention or understand the rules of the road and crosswalk when they are crossing the road near school bus loading zones. Stay vigilant and watch for any signs of activity near bus stops.

HAVE A LAUGH
Rewrite the Past A Fresh Perspective Through ‘Revisionist History’
In a realm saturated with podcasts covering everything from baking to prison, “Revisionist History” by Malcolm Gladwell, author of the nonfiction blockbuster “Outliers,” stands out. Through his compelling narratives and thought-provoking analysis, Gladwell’s podcast challenges our understanding of the past, invites us to reconsider our assumptions about the present, and sparks new ideas for the future. “Revisionist History” encompasses Gladwell’s insatiable curiosity and appetite for untold stories and unconventional viewpoints. The podcast explores overlooked and forgotten events, individuals, and ideas that have shaped our world. He brings these hidden stories to the forefront and weaves them into a narrative that prompts listeners to completely reexamine their perception of historical events. I mean it — from the story about how Elvis once forgot the lyrics to his own song to theories about the future of the automobile, these episodes will shock you. But the podcast isn’t just a history lesson. Gladwell’s rare ability to intertwine historical facts with cultural observations and personal anecdotes is entertaining and relevant — it has a way of keeping up with the times and staying current.

INJURY-FREE RUNNING: THE KEY LIES IN FORM

The Key Lies in Form
INJURY-FREE RUNNING
are some of the most common errors that can lead to injury — and how to correct them.
as you run. You aim to avoid bumping your head by maintaining a consistent distance from the ground. HUNCHING Many people have bad posture, so it’s no surprise it carries over to their running form. But it’s a problem worth correcting. Hunched shoulders and leaning forward while running make breathing harder and prevent proper hip extension. It’s also bad news for your back. Dr. Guthmiller urges runners to imagine a string pulling their spine toward the sky. At the same time, avoid standing too straight. Proper posture involves a slight lean with a straight spine and squared shoulders. Developing proper running form takes time, and no one eliminates all errors immediately. But you’ll reduce your risk of developing an injury and see more progress if you can reduce your mistakes. Try to focus on one part of your form at a time — you might be surprised how much better you feel.
OVERSTRIDING Many runners mistakenly think they’ll improve their speed by increasing their stride or making each step bigger. But your body has a natural stride length, and extending your legs too far in front of your center of mass is one of the fastest paths to an injury. Overstriding stresses your joints unnecessarily, so focus on shorter, quicker steps instead. You’ll feel lighter and run more efficiently. BOUNCING Running should move your body forward, not up. Many runners push themselves off the ground and into the air, producing a bouncing motion that sends them up and down. It’s bad for your legs and will make you feel tired more quickly. To correct this problem, physical therapist and running coach Dr. Casey Guthmiller recommends imagining a low ceiling just over your head
Running is one of the most effective cardiovascular exercises, but it’s also among the most likely to cause injuries. However, many problems runners face aren’t inherent to the sport — they result from bad form. Improper running form can put unnecessary stress on your joints, spine, and neck, potentially causing long-term damage. Here
