2025 PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS: Nike Sports Complex Site Improvements – The Naperville Park District plans to implement large-scale site improvements at Nike Sports Complex including new native planting areas with interpretive signage, converting the infields to synthetic turf at ballfields 1, 2, and 3, a challenge course, a new asphalt loop trail, a renovated playground, new water play features, and a new picnic shelter overlooking the existing cricket pitch. The existing playground will be completely renovated to include new features, and the play surface will be replaced with poured-in-place rubber surfacing. At a Public Open House event held in June 2024, the Park District solicited input from residents to help select new playground equipment, water play features, and challenge course equipment. The open house was held in preparation for the development of the Nike Sports Complex Site Master Plan that was submitted to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) as part of an Open Space Lands Acquistion and Development (OSLAD) Grant application seeking $600,000 in funding to support the site improvements. The design, engineering, and permitting phases of the project are slated to occur in 2025 with most of the site improvements to be constructed in 2026. Polo Club Park and Fairlane Farms Park Developments – As part of the Polo Club Subdivision and the Land Cash Contribution Agreement authorized on July 13, 2023, land for Polo Club Park and Fairlane Farms Park will be donated to the Naperville Park District by Pulte Home Company. The centralized Polo Club Park, measuring approximately 2 acres, will include a playground, shelter, site furnishings and landscaping. The second park, measuring approximately 6 acres and named Fairlane Farms
Park, will consist of two natural turf multipurpose fields and off-street parking lots. The land is anticipated to be officially conveyed to the Naperville Park District and the parks constructed for community use in 2025. Upon donation, Polo Club Park and Fairlane Farms Park are planned to become the 139th and 140th parks within the Naperville Park District system. Ron Ory Community Garden Plots Site Improvements – Per the Site Master Plan developed in 2022 based on community input, the main gravel parking lot is slated to be converted to ADA-accessible permeable paver surfacing to better meet the needs of patrons who enjoy activities and programs on-site and at Knoch Park. Additionally, this project involves the installation of raised ADA garden beds and drainage improvements. The Naperville Park District received a $60,000 Water Quality Improvement Program (WQIP) grant from DuPage County Stormwater Management Planning Committee to assist with replacing the gravel parking lot with permeable pavers at the Ron Ory Community Garden Plots. Playground Renovations/Installations – In 2025, the existing playgrounds at Columbia Commons, Kroehler Park, Meadow Glens, Rose Hill Farms Park, West Greens, White Eagle Park, and Willowgate Square are planned for renovation. Golf Course Improvements – In 2025, the Golf Department plans to replace the current gas cart fleet with electric carts. The first phase of the replacement initiative is slated for Springbrook Golf Course as their existing carts are the oldest in the fleet between the two courses. Required with the replacement of the carts will be upgrades to the electric service in the clubhouse at Springbrook Golf Course to accommodate the chargers for the carts. At Naperbrook Golf Course,
three tee complexes will be rebuilt to provide improved and expanded teeing areas as heavy usage from increased rounds require more teeing space. Construction is expected to begin in the spring, allowing the new tees to be opened in early summer. This design change was part of the Golf Master Improvement Plan recommendations, and with limiting the number of tees updated each year, the need to close parts or all of the golf course will not be necessary. The current Golf Master Improvement Plan will be updated in 2025 as well. Additionally, the 2025 Golf Department Capital Plan consists of several asset maintenance items, including restroom updates and interior improvements at both clubhouses, which involves adding new fixtures, vanities, and lighting, as well as replacing wall and floor tiles. Exterior improvements are also planned for both clubhouses with enhancements to the brick paver patio areas, which will include repairing pergola structures, seal-coating pavers, and furniture updates.
