Supporting You Guide

SUPPORT FOR ADDITIONAL NEEDS At Nescot we offer a wide range of support for students with additional needs and disabilities. We will work with you to support you, make reasonable adjustments, and help find practical solutions to any difficulties you may have. The Learning Support Team supports students with and without and Education Health and Care plan (EHCp) with: • Moderate learning difficulties • Specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia and dyspraxia • Physical or mobility needs or sensory impairments • Social, emotional or behavioural difficulties • Exam access arrangements. Support for students who hold an EHCP. Documentation for students with an EHCP will have been assessed prior to enrolment, to ensure the needs as presented in the paperwork can be met by the college. The college will have responded to Local Authorities individually to inform them of support that can be provided. Students with an EHCP whose needs can be met should expect to have a named Learning Support Assistant (LSA). The LSA will meet with the student to identify how they like to be supported, support accordingly, encourage confidence and independence, monitor progress and record regular updates on ProMonitor. Students with an EHCP should expect to attend an annual review of the EHCP to report on progress against targets set out in the document and apply for changes to the provisions, as needed. Departmental Learning Support Assistants (DLSAs) and Learning Support Coordinators have oversight of the learning support in each area. If you have an EHCP and would like to discuss your support needs, please ask to speak to your DLSA. Support for Students with Additional Learning Support (ALS) needs, without an EHCP Please report any ALS need to curriculum staff. They will be able to make adaptations to their teaching and resources in the first instance. Should your ALS need be more than the teacher can provide, they will make a referral to the learning support team for an assessment. Documented evidence will help claims for additional support, so please provide evidence to: lscoordinators@ nescot.ac.uk . Please give your name and Student ID in any correspondence. Support for all Students have access to Assistive Technologies such as Read & Write, the accessibility options in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Apps, various adaptive AI tools and Google classroom. There is support to access these tools available from the E Learning Facilitators in the LRC or from your Learning Support Assistant. Nescot also works with external, specialist agencies to support students with hearing or visual impairment in line with the EHCp. Specialist Support Tutors complete exam access arrangement assessments and are based in L109, upstairs in the LRC. If you had exam access arrangements at school, please submit your Form 8/Form 9 (paperwork that can be obtained from school) to examarrangements@ nescot.ac.uk and a member of the team will be in touch to confirm arrangements for 25/26.
