LEARNING SUPPORT MENTORS Students who hold an EHCp, or those with Additional Learning Support Needs, have regular access to a Learning Support Mentor. These staff provide support to students to manage social interactions, they will advocate for you if you need support communicating with staff and provide emotional support when needed. Staff will work with you to try to enable you to overcome or manage your anxieties so you can access your studies. This may involve liaising with the welfare and safeguarding teams or providing information on external support agencies. Learning Support Mentors are located in departments. See the Safeguarding and Welfare Team in N17 on the ground floor of the North Wing for a referral. Learning Support Mentors are located in N17 (North Wing, Ground Floor) TUTORIALS Weekly tutorials are timetabled and led by your personal course tutor, who will take on the role of your parent in college. They will be your first port of call if you have any queries or concerns. The tutorial session centres around a teacher led presentation, which will broaden your understanding of topics, expand your worldview and help you become a well-rounded citizen of the United Kingdom. The sessions celebrate Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and discover perspectives outside your everyday experience . There is also information to help keep you safe. Activities to cement your understanding will be incorporated and followed by a termly 1:1 sessions with your tutor, to review both pastoral and on programme support. Your tutor will direct you to online resources and college services to support you through your study programme. 1:1 sessions will give you an opportunity to discuss any concerns that you might have or problems that you might be encountering on your course. Sessions focus on stretching and challenging you, while supporting you to achieve the best you possibly can through a process of SMART target setting and reviews. Your session will be recorded on the college’s electronic tutorial system known as Promonitor and can be reviewed by you on ProPortal. As a student at NESCOT, you will attend one tutorial session per week and should expect one 1:1 session per term . See your personal tutor for details.
