Q . Lome Linda, Calif. — “Are the spirits of the dead that are summoned by modem spiritualists the same type of manifestation as those called upon in Saul’s day with the witch of Endorf Are they actually spirits of the dead or demons impersonating the dead?” A. The case of Saul is not a patterned experience. It was not repeated any where else in Scripture. The witch of Endor did not bring up Samuel since he himself was actually seen. No one was more surprised that day than the witch herself. God did the supernat ural miracle in this case. As far. as today is concerned, the devil has many devices and modem spiritualists exer cise many devious means. Remember that the latter use many trickeries and false illusions. Ventriloquism is one of their tools. The well-known magician Houdini, who spent a lifetime study ing this matter, concluded before his death that in his years of research he had not found among the spiritualists one who was totally authentic. We need to remember, too, that there are some demons who are bound, awaiting the day of judgment. There are others, however, who are free to go about. Some of them are in the employ of Satan to blind the eyes of spiritualists and their followers. Certainly no child of God should have anything to do with those who consort with the dead and who seek traffic with lifeless spirits. Q . San Diego, Calif. — “Where did the names of the nations of the world knoum to us today get their original titles? Did these come from Noah’s sons?” A. Some have come that way. Genesis 10 and 11 gives us an indication of that fact. This shows how closely knit the whole human family really is. Names of places most frequently come from individuals. The land of Caanan got its name, as an example, from one of the sons of Ham. Scripture is re plete with such illustrations. Names have come in other ways, too.

Q . Richfield, Wash. — “What is meant by ‘work out your own salvation’? Where is that found?” A. This is in Philippians 2:12. Notice how careful the Holy Spirit is even about prepositions. Paul doesn’t say “for” but rather “out.” There is a vast difference. Don't overlook the 13th verse which clearly states that it is really God who does the work in us according to His good pleasure. No one can work in order to obtain or to merit his salvation. It means we are to put our salvation to practice in the daily experiences of life showing forth the Saviour to all with whom we come in contact. The idea of “fear” in this verse means a holy awe or reverence. We are not to be afraid in thei sense of trembling but rather in humility we need to realize that we are saved to live out our redemption in every area of our daily existence. Q . Cyprei*, Calif. — “I understand that the Jews were God's chosen people. They had their eyes closed so that the Gentiles would be grafted on. Yet, are the Jews still chosen?” A. God did not cast off His people which He foreknew. The Lord’s choice is an eternal one. Romans 11 clearly points out this fact. While He selected the people of Israel doesn’t mean that every single one will be saved. Only those who trust Christ as Saviour are eternally redeemed. He did choose this The second yew el (lela College’s program of nursing Has seen the enrollment Increase rapidly.
