TIDINGS OF GREAT JOY The angels came down from the glory above To bring the glad tidings of heavenly love, Proclaiming that Jesus the Saviour was born In Bethlehem's manger that marvelous morn. Now all was fulfilled that the prophets foretold How God in great mercy His grace would unfold, By sending His Son to redeem man from sin, And cleanse every heart that would let Him come in. No wonder that millions now joyfully sing Their anthems of praise to this heav enly King; This sweet Child of Mary, this blest sinless One, Redeemer, Creator, God's well-beloved Son. His presence illumines life's broaden ing way, He gives strength and solace through each passing day. He comforts in sorrow. He sees every tear, He never will leave us, He always is near. Than let us put Christ into Christmas once more. The One whom we worship, the One we adore. For soon, we do know, He is coming again In power and great glory to reign over men. His kingdom will cover this war shat tered world, His banner of peace shall be swiftly unfurled. Then sorrow and sin shall forevermore end Through Christ our Redeemer, our Saviour, our Friend. — Albert Simpson Reitz

THE STARS STILL SHINE The stars still shine on Bethlehem, The shepherds watch their sheep And through the inn as long ago The guests He down to sleep. The stable bears a scent of hay, A new lamb's plaintive cry, And yet the Shepherd comes no more As once He came, to die. No more for Him a manger bed And swaddling clothes to wear, No more the print of thorny crown, No more the cross to bear. The last long, dusty road is walked, The mount of Calvary scaled; He lives today at God's right hand By hosts of angels hailed. The stars still shine about the world Where God once sent His Son— O, earth, receive the blessed gift: Redemption's work is done. — Ruth Gibbs Zwall BETHLEHEM AND CALVARY There was no room in Bethlehem For Him Who left His throne, To seek the lost at countless cost And make their griefs His own; But there was room on Calvary Upon the Cross of shame, For Him to die uplifted high To bear the sinner's blame. There was no room in Bethlehem, And in the world today Men will not give Him room to live. And bid Him turn away; There was no room in Bethlehem For Christ, the Prince of kings, From throne and crown to earth come down W ith healing in His wings; But there is room at Calvary For sinners to abide, And who will come may find a Home In Jesus Crucified!
