Electric Trucks Mandate Could Be Unconstitutional
Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall has joined a comment letter asking the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to deny California’s waiver request for its “Advanced Clean Fleets” regulation. The new rule attempts to impose an electric- truck mandate on fleet owners, operators, and manufacturers, including trucking companies that drive one truck for as little as one day per year in California. The 24-State coalition argues that the EPA should not allow California to exceed its statutory and regulatory authority by implementing an EV mandate that is sure to disrupt the logistics and transportation industries nationwide. “As businesses flee California, the state is now trying to extend its tyrannical reach beyond its borders and illegally force companies across the nation to comply with its electric vehicle mandates. These policies are out of touch with consumers and companies, who will face direct and disastrous costs that will impact the economy nationwide,” said Attorney General Marshall. “There is no way that every small business that works in California can afford electric trucks, some of which cost $400,000, not to mention the cost to install charging stations and the costs of maintenance. The EPA must recognize the tremendous strain this regulation will have on our supply chain and, most importantly, on the already stressed personal finances
of everyday Americans.” Under the Clean Air Act, only the federal government can set emissions standards for vehicles. After California asked the EPA for a waiver to enforce “Advanced Clean Fleets,” the EPA solicited comments from the public. The 24 States argue that granting a waiver would be unconstitutional because it would permit California to regulate motor vehicles in a way that none of the other States can. The comment also argues that nothing in federal law permits California or the EPA to ban internal-combustion vehicles altogether. Given California’s large population and access to ports for international trade, should the EPA allow Advanced Clean Fleets to be enforced, the regulation will do significant damage to the national supply chain. Previously, Alabama joined a multi-state lawsuit led by Nebraska seeking to enjoin California’s regulation, and that litigation is ongoing in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California. In addition to Attorney General Marshall, attorneys general from the following States joined the comment to the EPA: Nebraska, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

The Gadsden State College Cardinal Foundation will host its gala at 6 p.m. Thursday, October 10 at The Venue. The event will include cocktails, a seated dinner, a silent auction and live entertainment by Worth the Wait of Cherokee County and Swoop (members of the Gadsden State Show Band). “We are beyond thrilled to present such talented musicians and singers for this year’s Cardinal Gala. Worth the Wait, the mother- daughter trio from Cherokee County is nationally recognized thanks to their appearances on American Idol and The Voice,” said Hilary Folsom, director of Advancement and Alumni Relations at Gadsden Community State. “We have planned an evening full of showcasing the talent of our students, as well as opportunities to interact with faculty, staff and students in many of our programs including FAME and Health Sciences.” Last year’s gala was the inaugural event for the Cardinal Foundation and was successful, raising over $68,000 for scholarships and college initiatives. Those dollars have funded projects for Health Sciences
and the most recent addition of supplies for a Black Box Theater for our Fine Arts program. “With a delicious dinner featuring local vegetables, presented by our students, you will certainly enjoy the evening with your table mates,” said Tommie Goggans III, president of
the Cardinal Foundation Board of Directors. “Our community and sponsors have stepped up to support this event and we couldn’t be more grateful. I encourage everyone to visit our social media page to see sponsor highlights and silent auction items that I am sure will go quickly.”
Sponsorships for the Cardinal Gala are available ranging from $1,500 for a table for eight to $10,000 for the exclusive Presenting Sponsor. Individual tickets are also available for $100 each. For more information call Hillary Folsom at 256-549-8377.

Boaz Harvest Festival The temperature in
Lynn's Ledger Devotional Column By Denise Lynn Dream The Big Dreams I can almost hear Cinderella singing her song to the little blue birds wearing bonnets “A dream is a wish your heart makes when you're fast asleep”. Cinderella was my favorite movie from my childhood and she wasn’t far off. I hear myself singing it a little different “a dream is a wish my heart makes as long as I put it on a list ”. It may sound crazy but dreams can die in your heart. Scripture says in Habakkak 2:2-3 the Message version “And then GOD answered: "Write this. Write what you see. Write it out in big block letters so that it can be read on the run. This vision|message is a witness pointing to what's coming. It aches for the coming-it can hardly wait! And it doesn't lie. If it seems slow in coming, wait. It's on its way. It will come right on time.” I learned a long time ago that this was the method for me. Not everyone is a list maker and there are many different personality types that factor into how you accomplish goals, but a dream is different and should be treated as such. Just find your method. Scripture supports the list process. Write down your dream “aka God birthed vision” that was dropped in your heart. You know the dream, it’s the one that feels different and almost impossible or daunting. It feels big, but at the same time your heart skips a beat and energizes when you ponder it. Pondering and planning is a big part of making the dream|vision that God gave you into a reality. It all starts with the list and writing it down. When you take the time to capture that dream and put it on paper, it’s a declaration to yourself that you are submitting that dream to God and you believe He is big and can fulfill big things. After you write it down, pray and ponder ways to accomplish it and don’t let the enemy deter you. Hold tight to the steering wheel as you navigate unexplored territories because if it was easy it would not be shining bright and pointing others to God. That God bling can be painful, the hardest parts can be waiting patiently for the day. The last part of the scripture in Habakkuk says to wait patiently and reminds us that the end result is on its way and it will be right on time. His perfect timing. The middle part of the scripture caught my attention. It says “write it in bold letters so it can be seen on the run”. That sounds like a billboard. But I think it’s a reminder that while life is busy, and we are running around, that dream|vision will get lost in the loud chaos of our daily life. So keep the vision alive and make sure you are focused on it like a billboard or blinking neon sign. Put something in your path to remind you. For me, I ponder in the morning and submit every thought that can lead to a decision that comes along to the obedience of the One who gave me the vision. I also put a few scripture promises taped around in places I go, like my closet, car, or work, in order to keep me mentally focused on that promise. The big advice here is that if the end result doesn’t Glorify our Father, then it may have been done in your power and not His. He wants to do the Big impossible dream. Stay focused and submit all to Him at every single step. Pray for His prompting and be obedient and soon your Big dream will be a realty! It started with Him and will end with Him receiving the glory and I’m sure it’s a proud poppa moment for our Heavenly Father.

Secretary of State Wes Allen wants to remind Alabama voters that county absentee election managers must receive mail-in absentee ballot applications by Tuesday, October 29, 2024. The deadline to return an absentee ballot application in person is Thursday, October 31, 2024. Absentee ballots being returned in-person must be received by the county absentee election manager by close of business on the day before the election- November 4, 2024. Absentee ballots returned by mail must be received no later than noon on Election Day- November 5, 2024. “Absentee voting is a vital component of the election process. That is why I advocated for legislation like SB1, which provides Alabama voters with strong protection against activists who profit from the absentee elections process,” said Secretary Allen. It is recommended to mail in your absentee ballot application and absentee ballots at least two weeks before the deadline for county Absentee Election Managers to receive them. Voters are required to present a valid form of photo identification before voting at their polling place or by absentee ballot.
