Authorities have arrested a Fort Payne man for Burglary and Public Intoxication. According to a press release from Fort Payne Police Chief Detective Josh York, on September 12, 2024 dispatch received a call from an individual regarding a male subject being inside a residence in the 700 block of Godfrey Ave N. When officers arrived at the residence, York said that the suspect had already fled. However, the victims were able to give a description of the suspect, and following a BOLO for the area officers located an individual matching the description of the suspect in the 800 block of Sanders Ave NE. Authorities identified the suspect as Jerimah Daniel Sharrow, age 27 of Fort Payne. York said that Sharrow still had items taken from the residence in his possession. During the investigation Sharrow was charged with Burglary 3rd and Public Intoxication and at the time of the news release he was in the Fort Payne Police Department jail waiting to be transferred to the Dekalb County Detention Center. Chief Detective York added that the investigation is ongoing and more charges could follow. Burglary Arrest

The National Park Service released a new report that finds visitor spending in communities near national parks in 2023 resulted in a record high $55.6 billion benefit to the nation’s economy and supported 415,400 jobs. The report finds that 325.5 million visitors spent $26.4 billion in communities around national parks, providing $19.4 billion in labor income. The lodging sector received the highest direct contributions with $9.9 billion in economic output and 89,200 jobs, followed by the restaurant sector with $5.2 billion in economic output and 68,600 jobs. Strengthening local economies through community led, partnership- driven conservation and increasing opportunities for outdoor recreation is a central focus of the America the Beautiful initiative. Scholarship Donation State Representative Mark Gidley presented a $2,500 check to Gadsden State Community College to fund scholarships. This donation will help alleviate financial barriers and ensure that more students can complete their educational journeys successfully. “Investing in scholarships at Gadsden State is investing in the future of our community,” said Gidley. “Scholarships not only provide essential financial relief but also open doors to opportunities that can transform lives and contribute to the growth of Etowah County and the surrounding region.” Hunter Davis, a Patient Transporter at Gadsden Regional Medical Center, has been named Employee of the Year for Large Business by the Governor’s Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities in conjunction with the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services. “It’s truly inspiring to have dedicated individuals like Hunter on our team at Gadsden Regional,” stated Mark Dooley, CEO of Gadsden Regional Medical Center. “The commitment of our staff significantly enhances the experiences of both our patients and visitors. We take pride in having Hunter as a valued member of our team.” During an October ceremony in Montgomery, in recognition of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, Davis will be presented the award by Governor Kay Ivey. Project SEARCH places young adults in real- world situations where they learn all aspects of gaining and maintaining a job. This process of immersion facilitates the teaching and learning of new work skills on a real worksite. “His genuine care and dedication were evident from day one, and it quickly became clear that he had a special gift for making patients feel at ease. Whether it was a reassuring smile or a few kind words, Hunter always knew how to connect and brighten someone's day,” said Penny Dobbins, Director of Imaging and Transport. “Over these past 2½ years, he has grown into a cornerstone of our team, consistently going above and beyond to ensure that patients receive the best possible care during their transport.”

According to DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden, his office department made fourteen drug related arrests during the month of August. They include: On August 3, 2024 Deputies stopped a vehicle on Highway 68 at the Delta Express in Collinsville for an equipment violation. During the stop, Deputies found a backpack containing methamphetamine. Amanda Chamblee (37 of Centre) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. On August 6, Deputies stopped a vehicle on County Road 792 for an equipment and tag violation. During a search, methamphetamine was found in the vehicle. Patricia Carol Jenkins (59 of Flat Rock) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. On August 7, Deputies assisted in the Fort Payne area on a BOLO. Deputies spotted the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Methamphetamine was found in the vehicle. Jason Dewayne Law (48 of Fort Payne) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. On August 8, Deputies stopped a vehicle driving in the center of the road on County Road 155. During the stop, Deputies detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from within the vehicle. During a search, Kratom, Xanax and marijuana were found. Anthony Lee Graham (41 of Higdon) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance (x2) and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. On August 10, Deputies responded to a call of a suspicious person, possibly intoxicated, around Rowdy’s Gas Station. Marty Lamanuel Croft (57 of Section) was found in possession of methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Croft was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd and Public Intoxication. In a separate incident on August 10, Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Willow Road in Ider finding marijuana, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. Russell Noah Davis (49 of Hixson, Tn) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Officers with Ider PD assisted with this arrest. On August 10, Deputies responded to a call of an intoxicated person on County Road 826 in Fort Payne. Upon arrival, Deputies encountered Dakota Storm Butler (29 of Fort Payne) intoxicated or under the influence of a controlled substance. Butler was then found to be in possession of approximately 12 grams of methamphetamine. Butler was charged with Unlawful Possession with Intent to Distribute (controlled substance), Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Probation Violation. On August 22, Deputies responded to a domestic violence call on County Road 834 in Crossville. During a search of the residence, methamphetamine was found. Jason Layne Harbin (44 of Crossville) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Domestic Violence 3rd. On August 25, Deputies were conducting a driver’s license check at the intersection of County Road 27 and County Road 47, when a vehicle driven by Randy Dwayne Grier Jr (33 of Powell) came through with several open alcoholic beverages in the rear floor board and odor of marijuana. Methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found in the vehicle. Grier was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Also on August 25, Deputies stopped a vehicle on Highway 35, near NACC. When the driver pulled over, he exited the vehicle, initiating a foot chase with him being apprehended a brief time later. During a search of the vehicle, Deputies found drug paraphernalia containing methamphetamine and three different controlled substances. The passenger, Kirstie Breanne Thrift (26 of Section) claimed all illegal drugs belonged to her. Thrift was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance (x4), Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Disorderly Conduct. On August 27 Officers with the Crossville Police Department responded to the Kilpatrick Quick mart on a disturbance call. Officers made contact with Angela Baker Upton (47 of Leesburg) who, due to having warrants, gave Officers a fake name. Upton was later found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine. Upton was charged with Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (x2), Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Use False ID to Obstruct Justice and 3 warrants for Failure to Appear. Also on August 27, Deputies stopped a vehicle on County Road 383 for having an expired tag. Drug paraphernalia was seen in the vehicle and after a search, methamphetamine and additional drug paraphernalia were found. Cleveland Bailey Brown (26 of Boaz) was charged with Unlawful Possession with Intent to Distribute (controlled substance) and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. On August 29, Fyffe Police officers and DeKalb County Deputies conducted a traffic stop at Highway 75 in Shilo finding methamphetamine in the vehicle. Charles Joseph Garrett (26 of Section) and Zachary Wayne Green (34 of Fort Payne) were both charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
