Care and keeping of your Sumner student laptop: • Run Windows and Lenovo updates regularly. At least once a month, and before midterms, finals, or any big test. • Run updates with your laptop while plugged in and charging. • Fully shut down your device at least once a week. • Ask for help when a problem first starts, we are here to help you! How to run your updates: Start with your laptop plugged and charging. For Windows updates, go to your settings on your computer (gear Icon) then click on Windows update, and check for updates, run updates until it comes back as “You’re up to date”. For Lenovo updates, within the “Lenovo Vantage” app there should be a “check for updates” button in the upper right, these updates might request a restart of your computer. Common IT Issues and fixes: • Camera issues: Run Windows and Lenovo Updates, If BIOS updates aren’t up to date, issues will often occur with the Camera. • Microsoft office asking you to pay for your office subscription: Check in the upper right corner of word that you are logged into your Sumner student account ending in @sumnercollege.edu, if you aren’t logged into this account, log out of your other accounts and log into your Sumner account. If you need help with your username or password let us know and we can send you that information and reset your password if necessary. • Screen cracked or broken: You will need to purchase the accidental damage protection add-on to your warranty if you haven’t already, wait 30 days to make the claim, then we can contact Lenovo, this can take about two to three weeks to ship out, get fixed, then shipped back to us, we do offer loaner laptops if this is something you might need during that waiting period. • Lockdown browser issues: First check for Windows and Lenovo updates, then updates within Respondus, check these by opening up Respondus then clicking the “I” Icon in the upper left, then clicking “Check for updates”, make sure you uninstalled McAfee, this can cause some issues sometimes for Respondus, Search “installed Apps” in your laptop search bar and click on it to open, then search for “McAfee” within the installed apps. If anything pops up for McAfee, click on the three dots on the right and click uninstall, do this until no more McAfee apps appear.
