LOCAL ARTIST PROFILE
Wilma Pineau by Peri Hayes Wilma Pineau has been creative since childhood revealing, “Even before I was in school, my mom and I would do lots of arts and crafts around the house.” She has studied at the St. Thomas Elgin-Public Art Centre since the age of four: “That was my entire summer when I was in elementary school, and the instructors were a big inspiration for me.” Upon aging out of the Art Centre’s youth programs, Wilma began volunteering as an Art Instructor for March Break and summer workshops in addition to PA Days. Wilma is in Grade 12, and studying art at a university level. She recounts completing a self-portrait project in her Grade 9 art class, similar to a Grade 11 assignment. It has been a fulfilling journey for Wilma as her artistic abilities evolve: “Seeing how far I have come, and the tangible improvement in my art is a big drive to keep creating.” Discussing the artistic style which she gravitates toward, Wilma offers, “In the last year or so, I’ve been trying to work on accurate anatomy.” She enjoys exploring the cartoon genre, while her larger projects incorporate realism: “Most of my art is pen and pencil, but I do enjoy using acrylic paints and watercolours.” Asked what excites Wilma as an artist, she enthusiastically presents, “I love gathering a lot of inspiration and being able to create art that’s sort of just an outlet for a bunch of the stuff that I love. Being able to put ideas into a visual is rewarding.” Most recently, Wilma illustrated a book by Eva Webster titled
