LOCAL ARTIST PROFILE

Heather Keating by Peri Hayes Heather Keating is an artist who eloquently articulates her passion: “Art is a way of life, and I have a drive to be creative. I just paint away.” Heather has 20 years of experience teaching -- for example, she instructed art therapy classes at nursing and retirement homes. Heather was hired to conduct workshops at St. Thomas Elgin-Public Art Centre in 1999, during which her confidence flourished. This Georgian College of Art graduate’s resumé includes awards for juried shows, as well as featuring her paintings in corporate and private collections across North America, England and France. Having lived in Barry, British Columbia, the Ottawa Valley and her cherished childhood home on Harris Flower Farm —

which is proudly presented in this image — Heather grew up surrounded by nature. In one of her Artist Biographies, Heather recounts, “With acres of land outside my door, childhood was a never-ending adventure. I fondly recall running free with my brothers and sisters, building forts and exploring the gully behind our farmhouse. Reflecting back, I am certain most of my life skills were developed in the fields and at home.” As Heather conveys, her creative process involves travelling and capturing photo references or mental screenshots of the landscapes which inspire her. Presently painting with acrylics and watercolours, she has also dedicated time to Plein Air
