THE KING’S BUSINESS

their own people, if you pray for us. SAN PEDRO HARBOR TAT’ORD comes from San Pedro of the * * conversion of an engineer who was often given help. His growth in the Christian life is a source of joy to the faithful workers in that harbor. Another splendid meeting was held on the U. S. S. “South Dakota” by Mr. Horton and the men in charge of the work there at present. At least fourteen con versions was the result of prayer and labor used of God to illumine the Word spoken. Friends who desire to know the present address of Mr. Zimmermamj can reach him at No. 3335 Maybelle avenue, Oak land. Repeatedly we hear men say, “Why don’t they give us just the Bible and not so much character-building and things we cannot understand?” Truly, it is “the entrance of Thy Word which giveth light.” We must tell you of another man and how graciously God works when we are just willing to let Him use the Word He has written in our hearts. We found him sullen and bitter and scathing in his sar casm, and his onslaught upon the Old Testament writings was vindictive. We just kept quiet, by God’s grace, and when he had exhausted all the old-time hammers of noted infidels, we left him with a ‘simple heart testimony to the saving and keeping power of the Lord Jesus Christ in our own life; but that night we carefully reviewed the situation ,and surrounded with com mentaries, Torrey’s “Difficulties of the Bible,” Gray and Hastings, ditto, we dug and delved into the early morning hours: It was a good night’s work. We were refreshed, faith deepened and more firmly rooted in the grand old Book. We mailed our condensed and yet bulky effusion, and I wish I could tell you how sweetly and

very glad to supply them. Being told that if anyone could not afford to buy one, copies would be furnished free, the only man who Could speak English said, “We like this book very much; we want to buy it.” Fifteen Bibles were eagerly sought and purchased by the little group of just fifteen men! How proud they were to each possess a Bible of his own for 90 cents! Was not God wonderfully working? Is this hunger not a token of rich things to come? These men will stay here indefi nitely on their interned vessel. A Bible class will be organized to meet at least once every week, with the head man as interpreter. Perhaps you can help train some p i these men to be evangelists to I T WAS over four months ago that we went into a place where a crowd of men were gathered. Permission was most courteously granted to hold a short Gospel meeting. We left the place with no appar ent indication that the Word of God had fallen upon good ground, and did not return during the interval of those four months. A week ago we were approached by a man wifh bright, glowing face, who recalled the circumstances and told us he had just spoken to a man who had been present at that meeting and had been under conviction since that time, and had now received Jesus Christ as his own personal Saviour. Sj That very night we had another joyful surprise when we saw him at the Fishermen’s Club, accompanied by .another man who had been present at the first meeting- and who, at the close of the service,-also received Jesus as his Sayiour. We have since returned to that spot and there is morte to follow, as the fishing is fine in the pool. We find that men are willing to listen when the old Book is opened up to them, and the surprises and questions are many.
