He knew that the Jews attached the idea of equality with God to it, yet He accepted it and com­ mended Nathaniel for bestowing it upon Him (v. 50). a contrast to them between John the Baptist and Jesus Christ! The tremendous influence of that con­ tact ! They were different men from that hour, John 6 :37. (4 ) Finding th e B rother, v. 41. The Approach to the Soul: F irst: Simplicity (v. 36), “Behold!” Second: The field: the nearest neigh­ bor, friend, at your door, anywhere, everywhere. Third: The manner: one -by one. Most men won by some one. Advantage: all share in privilege; all responsible; all able. Fourth: Qualification: witness of experience. Tell what you know. Have an experience; know some­ thing; know Christ; know you are saved; speak out of your heart. ( 1 ) The F inger Post “Behold,” v. 36. Pointing to Jesus. The life of a Christian should be speak­ ing of Jesus—exciting inquiry. Not direct­ ing attention to self. Self forgotten, buried. Never Say “see me;” see Christ. A life message of believers, “Behold.” What will they see when they behold Him? Isa. 45:22 ; 65:1, 2; Heb. 12:2; 1 Peter 1:19, 20. We are able to point men to the Lamb of God. Remember this is the first title given Him, and it is fundamental. There is nothing great to ,do—be a sign post for Jesus. Be a voice. ( 2 ) T he F irst Lesson, vs. 37, 38. “Come and see.” The law of the new life is practical. Put it to the test. Prove the Word. The appeal is to the reason. “He that hath;” “To as many;” “Come unto Me.” These promises are simple; capable of proof. John had testified out of his own knowledge. God had spoken; he believed.
