Blue Springs State Park is home to a first-magnitude spring, meaning that it produces millions of gallons of water per day. During the winter, this spring is at 72 degrees Fahrenheit, it is a refuge for manatees and home to 15 threatened or endangered plants and animals.

Manatees are gentle marine mammals that are endangered due to habitat loss, boat collisions, and other threats. They are also known as “sea cows” because they graze on aquatic plants.
