Hello Delaware, It’s October (Already) That’s the premise for Andrea Mara’s new novel – Someone in the Attic ! Are you hooked like I was? That premise opens so many ways for the book to evolve. Middlesex Centre held a Community Open House at the Delaware Community Centre on the evening of September 5th to answer questions about the planned growth and development in the community of Delaware. Attendance was forty people. Middlesex Centre’s plan looks out 20 years. There is no start time for commencing development. It is an expensive project to provide infrastructure to grow the community. Our policy remains that development should pay for development. I attended the Association of Munici - palities of Ontario in Ottawa on August Read more from Luanne at luanne-abookwormsworld.blogspot.co m I wondered how Mara was going to tie the myriad of threads all together. Lots of ah ha as you get closer to the final pages. An inventive and addicting read! Julia, her children and ex husband have moved back to Ireland from the US. They’re looking for a fresh start for their daughter – the why isn’t revealed for quite a while. Some of the the new neighbours are a bit odd. Being back in Ireland gives Julia the opportunity to catch up with old friends. It’s great to see them, but it also brings up some uncomfortable history. 18th to 20th. While this is a conference and trade show, it is also an opportunity to pitch our concerns and funding requests to various ministers. In our case, we met with Kinga Surma, Minister of Infrastructure, to thank her for her past support and to plead our case for further grant funding concerning our infrastructure needs. We continue to grow and will need help with roads, bridges, water and wastewater facilities. The Minister of Transportation was represented by his parliamentary assistant Rick Bresee. As we intend to grow toward the 402 in Delaware, we expressed our need for an interchange to access the 402 via Carriage Road and provincial support to do this. The Minister of Sport is Neal Lumsden. with him and his team about our disappointment in receiving no grant money for a new Ilderton arena or for the smaller project of retrofitting that same arena. The final Minister we met with was Vic Fedeli, who is responsible for Economic Development, Job Creation, and Trade. His ministry has been very supportive with grants to try to encourage various businesses to relocate to Middlesex Centre. We will need help going forward in this area. Finally, we met with Hydro One to express our concerns about a number of project delays because electricity was not available in a timely manner, resulting in significant delays. Many residents have been inquiring about the crosswalk at Victoria and Springer. The delay in this project, which is on a county road and was approved by the County, is due to a legal document that must be presented to our Council for approval. Unfortunately, this process has been delayed as the County’s most senior lawyer has left. As a result, we anticipate that this project will be completed in early 2025. That is all for this issue. As always, you can call, text or email me. Cheers, Frank John Caverhill is the younger son of the late Ernest Caverhill and Susie Boyd of Lobo Township. John’s writings often reflect his experiences and observations of growing up on the family farm, attending the one room school, S. S. No. 7 Lobo (Bear Creek School), and Vanneck United Church. John’s sense of humour and story-telling skills are legendary. His keen observation skills have augmented his repertoire . perfect dessert was a large piece of dark chocolate cake nestling beside two large scoops of icy-cold, silky-smooth vanilla ice cream. Finishing off the picnic supper with this queen of desserts – and tomorrow was the beginning of the Summer Holidays! Things couldn’t get any better than that! Some games and races for the kids while the adults visited together concluded the event by nine o’clock. Families made their way to their cars, the kids calling good-byes to each other. In many cases, we wouldn’t see each other until September and for grade eight graduates, it was off to high school and a whole new adventure. Graduation ceremonies for public school students were still in the future when consolidated schools came into being. Nobody thought of any special treatment because you were simply doing what was expected of you. Summer Holidays started tomorrow and that was enough.
