This relatively new index provided by the American Angus Association attempts to characterize cattle by combining maternal ($M) and terminal traits ($B) into one index. $C is heavily weighted towards the “terminal” traits found in $B, and $C has a .95 correlation to $B. As a review of $B, it is a terminal index, comprising of the traits YW, DMI (Dry Matter Intake), Marbling, CW (Carcass Weight), RE (Ribeye), and Fat. $B is designed for herds that send all of their calves (male and female) to the feedyard, retain ownership, and hang them on a quality-based carcass-merit grid.
