A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 13
This week Year 13 received two very important assemblies. Ms Lane delivered one on Disability History Month. It made students consider barriers disabled people face daily and how not all disabilities are visible. We considered the important contributions disabled people have made to the UK historically and will continue to make. Ms Moore delivered an assembly on 16 days of Activism and enabled students to think about allyship against gender based violence. Both assemblies were thought provoking and allowed students to reflect on how we can all support each other in the sixth form and the wider community. Also on Wednesday, A-Level in Art and Photography students attended an Art In Action event. In this visually stimulating programme, students met and learnt from established artists and photographers working in different areas, to get a taste of what inspires them and how they make their living as artists. They met British visual artist, Cornelia Parker and portrait artist, Stuart Pearson Wright. Upon their return to school, they all said how much they enjoyed their day. We are looking forward to getting in the Christmas spirit with exciting events such as this evening’s Carol Concert at St Augustine’s in Whitton from 5pm, Tuesday’s Christmas Jumper Day, the Christmas lunch on Wednesday and the Winter Festival on Friday 13 at 7pm in the School Hall. You can buy tickets to the Winter Festival here for £5 each.
Students will also be receiving mock results, as always I encourage students to seek support and guidance from their teachers or the Year 13 team should they need to.
Have a lovely weekend!

BOOK OF THE MONTH
‘I who have never known men’ - Jacqueline Harpman A dystopian tale of 40 women locked in a bunker, they have no memory of how they became trapped in such a psychologically unforgiving setting. They have had all autonomy and romantic opportunity stripped away. It’s the youngest woman’s disorientating narrative centred around the female experience, in an attempt to answer philosophical questions regarding the essence of identity and what truly is an innate aspect of human nature. The book shines a light upon the undeniable importance of writing down experience, to maintain sanity through the creation of an imagined future reader. The detrimental consequences of isolation, complete under exposure and grief are explored in immense detail. Knowledge also plays a key role, are we guilty of taking our knowledge for granted? - Zara M, Year 12
