Registration Datum A registration datum can be used to accommodate some parts that have significant manufacturing variability with large positional tolerance, to have flexibility during program execution. Registration datum is created from a positional feature (point arc circle). It adjusts the playback of features that follow to maintain their positional relationship from this feature as measured. The registration datum acts like a datum, without modifying the measured results like an ordinary datum does. The registration datum feature is not a measurement datum. During program playback the difference between the freshly measured actuals, and the feature nominals will be used as an offset to the existing registration frame. The registration datum can also be used to cause “registration complete”, which completes the registration requirement for program execution.

To record a registration datum: 1 Perform a part skew and datum. Then measure several

features. Measure a position feature to be used for registration datum. the Registration datum button, then select the positional feature.

2 Press

3 Press to complete the datum registration. 4 Continue measuring more features as desired. In this example, Circle 9 and 10 data cloud will be based on the Reg Datum 8 feature. Done

Saving and loading reference frames to and from a file Reference frames can be saved to a file. These saved reference frames can then be recalled into a new part program and used for fixturing.

To save a reference frame to file: 1 Define a reference frame by measuring a skew and datum on a part. 2 Press the Save reference frame to file button in the datuming menu. Safe reference frame dialog is displayed. 3 Enter the reference frame filename in the prompt and then press the Save button to save the file and close the dialog.
