A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 8

Despite the extended weekend due to the King’s Coronation, students have settled back into lessons and it is great to see them all doing their best inside and outside of school. Last week we celebrated the Coronation by learning about the history of coronations in Britain and considering the Royal Family’s function within modern day Britain. Congratulations to the Y7/8 Rounders vs Richmond Upon Thames School who won their match this week. Congratulations to 8PGO for receiving the most epraise points this week. They were closely followed by 8EPA who came second and 8STH who came third. Good work! As Borough Sports approaches we are aiming to encourage students to attend track club and field event practises. Students will need to attend the clubs and trials in order to be selected for the school team. Coming up on Wednesday 24 May we have the Year 8 Parents’ Evening. This will be an opportunity for parents to talk to their children’s teachers to get an idea of their progress and engagement in their subjects. You will have already received a letter about the booking process which opens this evening. Finally, as we incorporate more chromebook use into our curriculum, please can I ask that parents / carers ensure that students bring in a fully charged chromebook each day along with the charger.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan I would like to recommend this book as it's the start of an extraordinary journey and grips you from the beginning. It is about a normal boy who finds out he is the son of the Greek god Poseidon. He is then brought to a camp for all the children of Greek gods. After trying to settle in, he is selected to go on a quest and that's when the adventure begins… ~Recommended by Eva A, Year 7 student Please contact us with any queries or problems you may have.
