A MESSAGE FROM OUR HEADTEACHER opportunity to talk to teachers as our students prepare to make their GCSE choices next term. On Tuesday Year 7 enjoyed a trip to see their festive production Robin Hood and the Christmas Heist at the Rose Theatre in Kingston. It was an incredibly enjoyable afternoon for all. We are officially launching Christmas at Waldegrave this evening with our annual Carol Concert at St Augustine’s Church in Whitton. I am really looking forward to lots of beautiful singing to get into the festive mood. Tomorrow the Friends of Waldegrave will be holding their annual Christ- mas Tree sale and Pre-loved uniform sale. Please come along to support us and raise vital funds for the school. Thank you to all the parents and carers who attend- ed this week’s Year 9 PCM. This is a really important Next Tuesday is Waldegrave Christmas Jumper day! Students can wear their brightest, funniest, craziest Christmas jumpers, and support charity Save the Children. Students may wear a Christmas themed jumper with their usual uniform. They can borrow one from a friend/sibling, find one in a charity shop, or take this as an opportunity to get creative by taking an old (plain) jumper and giving it some Christmas magic by adding decorations or tinsel for an extra bit of bling! Lastly, our first Waldegrave Wildlife Calendar is now available to order. The £5 calendars would make wonderful Christmas presents and are a great way to support the school and celebrate our talented students.

Monday 25 November marked the start of 16 Days of Activitism Against Gender Based Violence. The focus of 2024’s White Ribbon Day is #ITSTARTSWITHMEN and White Ribbon is encouraging men to hold themselves accountable to women and each other to effect positive behavioural change and transform harmful cultures. Gender equality is achievable if men and boys understand and assume their responsibility as allies. Richmond Borough Council are supporting the campaign with a White Ribbon Walk tomorrow, Saturday 7 December at midday from Hampton Wick Station, from where they will walk into central Kingston. The walk is open to all residents of Richmond and Kingston, with men and boys especially encouraged to join. The Borough is also reminding all residents about Richmond Safe Space, the green marquee outside Richmond train station which runs on Friday and Saturday nights after 9pm. You can visit the Safe Space for signposting, support or simply company while you wait to get home. Lastly, the Borough also offers the weekly One Stop Shop for free, discrete support, advice and information concerning domestic abuse, stalking and sexual violence: Fridays 10am-noon, Citizens Advice, 94-102 High Street, Hampton Hill

December is here and it is fantastic to see so many Year 10s getting involved in festive events in school. It is also great to see the students maintaining their excellent work ethic with real dedication to their lessons and GCSE subjects. Well done to all students who were part of the school production ‘The Return’ last week. I was very proud to see so many Year 10 students getting involved both on stage and behind the scenes. Congratulations! 10PGU are doing incredibly well, streaking ahead of the other classes with 773 epraise points this term. In second place is 10SPI with 562 points. Well done! Congratulations also to Jocelyn M, 10PGO for passing her grade 4 piano exam with merit. A lovely acknowledgement of her hard work. Following our annual Carol Concert this evening at St Augustine’s in Whitton from 5pm, next week Waldegrave gets very Christmassy! On Tuesday it is Waldegrave Christmas Jumper Day, when we are asking students to wear their brightest, funniest, craziest Christmas jumpers, and support Save the Children charity by donating £1 to help children in some of the toughest places have a better future. Students must wear their normal uniform but may wear a Christmas themed jumper - please borrow one from a friend/sibling or find one in a charity shop, or make this an opportunity to get creative by taking an old (plain) jumper and give it some Christmas magic by adding some decorations or tinsel for an extra bit of bling! Donations can be made on ParentPay. The Globe Players will be performing ‘A Christmas Carol’ in school for Year 10 on Wednesday December 17 at 1.15. Parents/carers are asked to contribute £5 per student with the exclusion of pupil premium students. Payment can be made via ParentPay. Lastly, the Winter Festival performance takes place on Friday 13 at 7pm in the School Hall. You can buy tickets to the Winter Festival here for £5 each. Have a lovely week!

BOOK OF THE MONTH
‘The Song of Achilles’ - Madeline Miller A retelling of the Trojan War of ancient Greece, following Achilles - a Greek demigod - and Patroclus. When Achilles is forced by his father to train as a soldier, he demands that Patroclus join him as his companion. Over the years, the boys find themselves sharing a deep connection and are able to openly share their love due to the secluded nature of the mountain where they train. However, as they return to civilisation, Achilles’ father is adamant that he find a wife. Soon the Trojan War demands the aid of Achilles to lead them to victory where he finds himself reuniting with Patroclus at camp. This book beautifully explores the complexity of unconservative romance through the heartbreaking manner of a Greek tragedy. - Isla S, Year 11

Richmond Schools Cross Country Event
6th place overall
Well done to all of those who took part in the Richmond Cross Country Event on a very bright but cold Friday in Bushy Park, which was a lovely venue for the event. Congratulations goes to Jasmine G, 10PGU who won the Year 10/11 girls event. Sio D, 7SDE came 11th in the Year 7 race and Olivia M, 9EMU 12th in the year 8/9 race. Our team finished a commendable 6th place overall which is a fantastic achievement - Well done team! The teachers were delighted to be able to support the team and cheer them on around the course.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE SKILLS FOR PARENTS Every Thursday during term-time Waldegrave hosts free English lessons in school, for Waldegrave parents/carers who would like to practise/improve their English language skills. It is also a chance to network with other multilingual parents. If this is something of interest to you, please come to the school Reception at 2:10pm on Thursdays during term time, ready for the start of the lesson at 2:15pm. Sessions are for 1 hour each week, finishing at 3:15pm.
