MALAYSIA DIGITAL SECURITY 2017-2020 Policies, Legislations and ICT Developments
InMalaysia, data breaches have shown various cases in the last 5 years. Among notable incidents occurred are the data breach involving more than 46.2 million mobile subscribers that resulted in a compromise of confidential personal information in 2017, data leakage involving personal details of 220,000 organ donors and their next of kin in January 2018, leakage of private information more than one million students and alumni University of Technology Mara (UiTM) enrolled between 2000 and 2018 in December 2018, Astro’s data incident exposing personal information of up to 0.2% of its customers in June 2019, and data leakage involving millions of Malindo Air customers data in August 2019. Financial institutions across the Asia Pacific region are under pressure to increase agility, improve efficiency, and embrace digital transformation, but many organisations in the sector, are hesitant to adopt cloud technologies and wary of embracing digital transformation, with a ‘wait and see’ attitude and slowed by common misconceptions that there are regulatory barriers on use of public cloud services. Cloud service providers are expected to actively engage regulators to help shape their cloud delivery models and practices. Readiness on physical cloud infrastructure, especially broadband speeds and strengthened regulatory environment by demonstrating the value of cloud technologies would certainly contribute to growth of both the industry and nation.
