MALAYSIAN TECHNOLOGY STRATEGIC OUTLOOK 2019/2020

ASIAN RAIL ACADEMY

The Technology In the advent of Fourth Industrial Revolution (4th IR), new technologies are emerging and have huge potential to positively transform the way people live and work. These technologies are augmenting human workers by increasing their physical and cognitive capabilities. The 4th IR drives higher automation, helps businesses and industries integrate the real world into virtual one and enable machines to collect live data, analyse them, and even make decision based upon them. Fundamentally, the IR4.0 is here to drive higher productivity, efficiency and greater customer experience. Among the 11 technology pillars in IR4.0, ‘Augmented Reality (AR) and Simulation’ which includes Virtual Reality (VR) have given a new lease of life to the training industry. Realizing the Virtual Reality (VR) benefits in training, Asian Rail Academy has set up VR labs to revolutionize rail learning in Malaysia. Asian Rail Academy is the first railway training provider in Malaysia and the region, to deliver training using digital content and VR. Technical rail programmes are delivered in our labs equipped with high end laptops, VR headsets and digital interactive SMART board. This rail learning using digital content and VR will be complemented with depot visits and hands-on practices too. Besides the railway, Asian Rail Academy is also exploring AR/VR training for other industries like aviation, logistics, automotive and a few others. Although AR/VR has been long in the market but its adoption in business and training has been slow and this is due to lack of digital content. Asian Rail Academy is currently partnering some global players to provide AR/VR certification programmes in Malaysia to develop local skilled talent and subsequently work on producing more AR/VR content in the marketplace.

Asian Rail Academy establishment is inspired by the growth of rail industry in Malaysia and the urgent need to address the gap in the standard of human capital required to develop the industry. The academy aims to support government policy and plan in human capital development given the substantial supply gap of skilled workforce in the Malaysian rail industry today. Asian Rail Academy aspires to reduce the skill gap through upskilling training on existing workforce to achieve global industry standard. Organizations and operators in the rail industry prefer employees with multidisciplinary skills as current railway technology is more integrated with mechanical, electrical and software components. Our programmes focus on rolling stock, traction and safety training in railway which are crucially in demand among employees. …ASPIRES TO REDUCE THE SKILL GAP THROUGH UPSKILLING TRAINING ON EXISTING WORKFORCE TO ACHIEVE GLOBAL INDUSTRY STANDARD.
