A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 13

It has been lovely this week to see all our Year 13s enjoying their last week in Sixth Form. Students have been enjoying form time breakfasts with their tutors and today they continued the sixth form tradition of wearing their old school uniforms. We were able to gather together for one last time to enjoy cookies and doughnuts at breaktime. It has still been a busy week with the Art and Fashion and Textiles exams taking place. Congratulations to our Art and fashion and textiles students who have completed their final pieces for their exams. It has been lovely seeing all the beautiful work that they have produced and the hard work that they have put into creating their final pieces. A reminder that you will be able to view their work at the exhibition, which will take place before the celebration assembly on 26 June between 5 - 5.45pm. Good luck to all of Year 13 as they start their A Levels next week. We wish them all the best and look forward to celebrating their Sixth Form experience at the celebration assembly on Monday 26 June. Details of how to book tickets will be communicated after half term. Finally, a reminder that students are still allowed on site during study leave to revise. All information regarding exams has been sent out via letter to parents/carers and there is information for the students on their tutor group google classrooms.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway For Whom the Bell Tolls follows Robert Jordan, an American soldier who goes abroad to fight on the side of freedom in a war with no true heroes. Deployed to blow up a bridge in the Spanish Sierra, Jordan begins to question whether he is fighting for the right people, or if such people even exist. Produced close to the exact midpoint of his career, For Whom the Bell Tolls represents the work of a master in his prime. Operating on many different levels, the book provides an accurate and harrowing description of the Spanish Civil War, a deep and intimate view into the lives of rebels, and a fast-moving, engrossing narrative. Despite the heavy subject matter, a simple and laconic writing style allows for the reader to move swiftly along without much interruption for long and gratuitous descriptions or introspection. In a sentence or two, a picture is painted of the Spanish countryside, and the men who fight for its freedom, and its destruction. With a low barrier for entry, and so much to gain, For Whom the Bell Tolls is a worthwhile read for anyone. ~Recommended by Zach R, Year 12 student Please contact us with any queries or problems you may have.
