2021 Report to Our Community

Every year, the Community PēdsCare team and Community Hospice Foundation for Caring partner to create a holiday experience for our pediatric patients and their families. Children typically come to the main campus on Sunbeam Road to meet Santa, take photos, receive gifts from their wish list, and more. The pandemic did not derail this festive annual event thanks to innovative thinking. They created a Candy Cane Lane drive-through experience for the 381 PēdsCare children and their families. Departments from across the organization used their own money to create holiday-themed stops on Candy Cane Lane, and two members of our staff dressed up like Santa and Mrs. Claus. Our PēdsCare families were able to experience a safe, festive, innovative holiday event, thanks to our people, Stellar, and JFC Cares.

The pandemic was difficult for children and adults, especially those living with life-limiting and life- threatening conditions. Our Community PēdsCare (peeds care) team, led by Director Patrice Austin, found innovative ways to engage our pediatric patients and their families, many of which had further isolated due to the COVID-19 positivity rates in the community. In partnership with the Community Hospice Foundation for Caring, the first-ever Halloween Doors & More drive-in movie experience was created for PēdsCare children. The same is true of the annual Community PēdsCare Day of Remembrance, when we honor all children whose lives were touched by the program but are no longer with us. This annual celebration of life was held virtually, instead of being cancelled, to honor the lives of our PēdsCare children and support their families’ healing journeys. The People For Children.
