DIGITAL DESIGN

In Term 3, Year 5 students deepen their understanding of computational thinking, exploring how binary coding is used by technology and creating a choose your own adventure interface through conditional coding. In Term 4, students explore the process of using visual programming methods to follow and create simple instructions in game - making. They generate questions related to the given topic and develop strategies and ideas to teach others about the problem through a game design. Students test, analyse and develop their solutions to achieve a range of desired outcomes. STEM In STEM, students develop their understanding of earth and space sciences through learning to identify the planets of the solar system and compare how long they take to orbit the Sun. They will also learn to model the relative size of, and distance between Earth, other planets in the solar system and the sun. Students will then develop their understanding of the chemical sciences through an exploration of the way solids, liquids and gases change under different situations and observe that gases do have mass and take up space.
