YEAR 10 SCIENCE & HUMANITIES ELECTIVES
PSYCHOLOGY
Psychology is the study of human thoughts, feelings and behaviour. The discipline of psychology embraces all aspects of the human experience — from the functions of the brain to the environments in which humans and other animals develop; from child development to ageing. Students explore what psychologists do and the different fields that psychologists work in including, health, sports, forensic and clinical settings. Students investigate sleep and dreams, learning and memory, social psychology and positive psychology. Through using Research Method skills, students conduct ethically considered investigations and report their findings. BUSINESS STUDIES Students explore the nature of innovation and discuss how businesses seek to create and maintain competitive advantage in the market. Students evaluate Australia ’ s place in an ever changing global market. Students analyse how and why the workplace is changing and discuss the impact this has for individuals, businesses and the broader economy. Students identify economic and business trends, explain relationships and make predictions about the consequences of economic and business decisions.
LEGAL STUDIES
Legal Studies provides students the opportunity to investigate the range of complex laws made by both parliament and the courts that exist to protect the rights and freedoms of individuals and groups. Students investigate the difference between criminal and civil law as well as the process through which laws are created. Students examine the processes involved when someone breaks the law and how a society deals with law breakers. Students explore current issues being discussed in the media and how they themselves can create positive changes to laws and the legal system. Students learn the system of voting, including who has the right to vote and how to vote.
