Secondary Curriculum Handbook

Senior Secondary Curriculum

20 TH CENTURY HISTORY Students investigate different wartime experiences through a study of the Second World War. This includes a study of the causes, events, outcomes and broader impact of the conflict in world history. An examination of the conflict in Europe and the Pacific is undertaken. The impact this conflict had on Australians at home and abroad is explored. Students analyse information from a range of primary and secondary sources to identify motivations, values and attitudes. When evaluating these sources, they analyse and draw conclusions, allowing them to develop and justify their own interpretations of the past.

EXTENDED INVESTIGATION Extended Investigation enables students to develop, refine and extend knowledge and skills in independent research and carry out an investigation that focuses on a rigorous research question in the area of their choice. Students are prompted to think critically and respond to provocations with articulate and well thought out responses. The skills that students develop in this study are transferable to any higher education course or vocational education.

Note: Students intending to undertake Units 3/4 Extended Investigation in Year 11 or 12 are highly recommended to choose this elective in Year 10.
