Le weekend de la mi-janvier a été mar- quée par du mauvais temps partout dans Prescott-Russell, mais plus le temps se détériorait, plus les Nationals de Rockland semblaient s’améliorer. Les Nats ont vaincu les Raiders de Nepean 5-0 vendredi soir dernier, sur la pati- noire principale de l’Académie canadienne et internationale de hockey à Rockland. Rockland a surpassé Nepean avec trois buts sans riposte en deuxième période, et a aussi dépassé l’équipe visiteuse avec 40 tirs au but comparativement à 19. Daniel Menges a été nommé la première étoile du match avec deux buts à son crédit, tandis qu’Alex Frechette a eu la troisième étoile, grâce à un but sans aide en deuxième période. Noah Doyle et Cole Craft ont aussi marqué pour Rockland. Le match à domicile de dimanche dernier contre les Hawks s’est avéré plus difficile pour les Nats, les deux équipes étant presque à égalité pour les tirs au but à 27 pour Rockland et 25 pour Hawkesbury. La clé de la victoire pour Rockland s’est avérée être un but sans réplique qu’Aidan Hilton a marqué pour Rockland vers la fin de la première période, avec l’aide de Jack Miles et Cameron Scrivens. Both of the games for the Clarence Creek Castors will be rescheduled to later dates because of the weather. Vankleek Hill and St-Isidore had their Fri- day night road games to play but the results for the January 10 events had opposite results for the clubs. The Cougars lost their game to the Bytown Royals 6-3. The Cougars scored all three of their goals in first period but still the Royals ended up ruling the opening session with four of their six goals in first period and then single goals in each of the following periods to extend their lead. St-Isidore grounded the Metcalfe Jets 4-1 last Friday night with the visiting team domi- nating the play in first and second periods. The Jets managed their one goal in the final period to match the last point scored by St-Isidore. The Cougars have a rematch on home ice this Saturday night against the Royals then head to St-Isidore Sunday night for a game there. That is also the sole game for St-Isidore in this week’s NCJHL schedule.
The weather over the January 10 weekend may have been foul, but it did not dampen the spirits of the Rockland Nationals as they shut down the Nepean Raiders 5-0 in last Friday’s home game and then clipped the wings of the Hawkesbury Hawks 4-3 on the Nats’ home ice Sunday. —archives

Rockland accueille les Colts de Cornwall le 17 janvier. Les Nats sont à Pembroke le 19 janvier, puis reviennent à domicile le 22 janvier pour accueillir les Grads de Navan.

Last fall the ladies from SFX brought home the trophy in basketball. So now, it’s up to the boys to finish their winter season on the court in the same winning style. The Lady Falcons earned Saint Francis Xavier Catholic High School another item for display in the school trophy case, with the Prescott-Russell Championship title for senior girls basketball. They also finished fourth at last year’s Eastern Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Associations (EOSSAA) finals with a 1-3 win-loss record. “It was a combination of veteran lea- dership and teamwork that definitely was a key for us,” said David MacKinnon, who co-coached with Chris Maxwell the Falcons senior girls. Now the Falcons senior boys have almost finished their winter season of high school basketball, with a seven-three win/loss record so far for their combined league and exhibition matches. They have one game left in the regular season schedule against the Kodiaks, February 5, at École secondaire catholique régionale de Hawkesbury, and are sitting in second place overall in the Prescott-Russell league standings, behind the Cougars from Rockland’s L’Escale.
“Our strengths are our three-point shooting and our ability to get out on the fast break,” said coach MacKinnon. “Our defence has improved a lot too, and we can switch our multiple defences.
