&/#3&'r#3*&'4 SCHOOL UNION ACTION The Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association (OECTA) launched job action, January 13, at schools in the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario region. The OECTA represents elementary and secondary teachers at CDSBEO schools. The OECTA and CDSBEO are involved in contract negotiations. Job action will include withdrawal of some admi- nistrative work, such as preparing report card comments and other duties. CDSBEO schools will remain open during the job action. —Gregg Chamberlain CDSBEO FINANCE REPORT The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario (CDSBEO) sent its revised finance projection for the 2019-2020 term to the Ministry of Education. The estimates include final enrolment figures and all related changes to expense estimates since the district approved its proposed budget in June. CDSBEO enrolment increased 1.5 per cent compared to the 2018-2019 term, and total expenses expected for 2019-2020 are about $189.2 million. That includes costs for an increase of 25 full-time staff, including nine teaching positions, five early childhood educa- tors, and four educational assistants. – Gregg Chamberlain

Amanda Simard has sat in the pro- vincial legislature as an Independent MPP for more than a year but she has expressed interest in joining the Liberal ranks for the next provincial election. During a recent interview with another media, Simard expressed interest in running for re-election under the Liberal banner.
