King's Business - 1920-10

THE K I N G ' S BUS I NE S S sonally, I found one man quite ill, hav ing to use a cane to get about. We told him that Jesus could heal him as well as' save his soul. We asked him if he believed it and one of the students and mySelf laid our hands upon him and prayed for his restoration. . One Sun day afternoon recently he drew near and a fellow worker asked him if he was saved. He replied in the affirma tive and the worker called me, telling me that this man professed to be a Christian. Then thfe Mexican, told how he and four others had accepted the Lord. He said, “ I was sick and walked about with the help of a cane, and you prayed for me.” I was indeed sur prised to see such a transformation in him. He was so well that I scarcely knew him. All glory be to Jesus for His saving and healing power! Utter Ignorance of Catholics Recently we visited a Mexican fam ily and explained to. them the way of salvation. Before leaving we gave them some tracts. On my return to the auto he sent his boy to me to tell me he wanted to see me, so I went back again, and I asked him what he wanted. He said he had a couple of questions to ask me. One of his ques tions was, “ Who and what is Jehovah?” This name is scarcely ever mentioned among Catholics. After explaining that to him, he asked if God had a mama. Of course they are taught to believe that the Virgin Mary is the Mother of God. After explaining these things to him, we asked if he was sat isfied, and he answered “ yes,” and thanked us. He said they were ig norant of these things and asked us to come back again. Oh, how benighted and blind are this people, and just think of the millions in like condition throughout Latin America. “ Shall we then the light of life deny?” May God help us to give the Gospel to all those who are of Roman Catholic faith. ROBT. H. BENDER. ¿Mi. ¿Us. BIBLE WOMEN How They Work For Good We have recently had illustrated in one of our Bible classes, the way in which God works things together for good. Before beginning the lesson it is customary to ask if any of the women present have special petiti<>ns on their hearts, and oh this particular day a

943 request was made for a neighbor of one of our women who was a member of a false cult, the request being, that just the right time to speak to the unsaved one might be known. While the re quest was being made, another mem ber of the class had come in, and im mediately suggested that were the physical needs of the woman in ques tion met, there would be a much bet ter opportunity- of reaching her spir itually, and then woman No. 2 pro ceeded to tell us the sad tale of a wife, with four children, one of them but a babe in arms, who had been beaten and left for dead by her husband, and of her terrible struggle for a mere exist ence, and how a little help had been secured for her, but that so much was needed, just for the ordinary comforts of life— dishes enough to eat from, a table to eat on, and something besides the floor to sit on— the woman herself just back from the hospital and utterly unable to work, the baby sick and needing milk. There is always a little box sitting on the table for free-will offerings from the class, and it was suggested that the class should apply the money on hand in relieving the needs of this woman. The amount grew; checks, bills and silver found their way into the lap of the woman designated to minister for us. Then we prayed earnestly for the salvation of her soul, the greatest gift that could come to her. •A few weeks later a bright-faced little woman came smilingly into the class, and listened with such absorbing interest, that 1 felt the message was really going home to her heart. And it was, for at the last meeting of the class when I asked her personally if she was trusting the Lord Jesus alone for her salvation, and if she knew she was saved, her answer was a most hearty assent. A few dol lars for relief, a few kindly words, a few earnest prayers, a few days at the Bible class, a mighty work of God in the soul. They all worked together for the good of this lost soul. No More Dabbling At the close of a Bible class one day, a lady said to the teacher: “ A few weeks ago I drifted into this class. For years I have been wanting something, dabbling here and there in various ‘isms’ though never satisfied; but here I have found Him and He has satisfied every longing of my restless heart and life; and I feel so rested and know I am anchored now.”
