Like other schools, GDHS is working to protect the continued mental health of its students. The school has an active partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association and is a winner of that agency’s annual community award for staff efforts. Several staff members are trained in ASIST inter- vention and the school peridically holds CMHA workshops for students. The school has a low incidence of bul- lying and students report they feel safe, the principal said. The school also has a strong communication program through the use of Facebook, Twitter, the school website and an online news channel called Gaels TV.

Teachers place an emphasis on hands- on learning, with fun programs such as the “GDHS Murder Mystery” that enables inter- mediate students to solve a murder, while using deductive reasoning, mathematics, English and other academic skills. The regional coroner, police officers, and staff members participate in the dramatic, inte- ractive presentation. The school also offers Specialist High Skills Major programs in hospitality and tourism, transportation, and fitness and health, and students are provi-

Glengarry has a focus on both school and staff wellness offering a variety of activities including football, curling, cross country, yoga, a well-equipped weight room, and a thriving music program. Quality Daily Phy- sical Education is offered to all students at both the intermediate and secondary levels.

Nouveautés au Festival des couleurs Le conseil d’administration du Festival des couleurs de Rigaud accueille quatre nouveaux administrateurs et de nouvelles idées pour le populaire événement. Les sièges laissés vacants par les anciens administrateurs ont été comblés par Richard Lefebvre, Jean-Charles Goyèche et Patrycia Beaudry. En raison des récentes élections municipales, le représentant du conseil de ville de Rigaud, Mario Gauthier, a cédé sa place àYannick Sauvé. André Roy, DavidVallée, Isabelle Juvien-Verdier, Josée Leroux, Martine O’Leary, Véronique Cunche et Marie-Claude Pilon ont été réélus. La direction générale est toujours assumée par Bertin Savard. Leur première réunion s’est tenue le 15 avril. Ils se sont entendus sur plusieurs nouvelles activités, qui se grefferont au Festival des couleurs qui se déroulera cette année du 11 au 13 octobre. Le Défi Altius, une course à obstacles destinée au gens d’affaires, et un circuit patrimonial sont des exemples de nouveautés.
