How Mardi Gras & Lent are Like

Every year around this time, I am reminded how much Mardi Gras and Lent have in common with the practice of law. Mardi Gras is a lot like a trial. It is fast, loud, colorful, and full of anticipation. Months of preparation lead up to a few intense days where everything moves quickly, and the stakes feel high. There is strategy, timing, and a little bit of controlled chaos. When you are in it, you are fully in it.

insurance companies, the discipline to keep building a case brick-by-brick long after the excitement fades. It is quieter, more reflective, and built on small daily sacrifices that most people never see. The truth is, you cannot have one without the other. Trials are won because of the consistent, patient work that comes before them. Whether we are in a Mardi Gras moment or a Lenten season, our commitment stays the same. We show up. We prepare. And we serve our clients well.

I created this workbook for you to document all the evidence you need to obtain a fair settlement from the insurance company after getting hurt in a wreck; things you may forget with time, like: • The accident details. • Witness information. • The progression of your pain and symptoms. • History of missed work and wages. • Names of doctors and dates of visits. • And more! We’d be happy to send you a free copy.

Then comes Lent.

Lent feels more like the everyday work of being a lawyer... the early mornings reviewing records, the careful conversations with clients, the steady follow-up with

Loyd and Erica recently spent time with students at J.B. Martin Middle School in Paradis and Albert Cammon Middle School in St. Rose for their Career Days, discussing what it is really like to work in the legal field and why helping people matters. Loyd enjoyed

answering thoughtful questions, sharing his own path to becoming a lawyer, and encouraging students to explore careers that align with their interests and values. Connecting with local schools is one of our favorite ways to give back to the community we call home.

WELCOME BABY LOGAN

At the start of 2026, Emma, our Claim Evaluator, welcomed her first child, a sweet baby boy named Logan. We are so excited for her and her growing family, and we are thrilled to welcome Logan into the world and recently to the office! We cannot wait to watch him grow and send lots of love from the entire LJBLegal family his way. We’re grateful to share in these meaningful milestones with our team and look forward to all the happy moments ahead for Emma and her family.

THE LJB LEGAL DIFFERENCE • We listen with empathy, and WE CALL PEOPLE BACK! • We are working-class LSU fans. We never thought we’d have to sue people either, but no one should have to fight insurance companies and government bureaucracy alone. • No charges unless we win. Nothing. ZERO. Until you win.
