Delta Epsilon Chapter Creates Black Resource Center at San Diego State University

T he Brother of Delta Epsilon chapter played an integral role in establishing the first Black Resource Center (BRC) in the history of the San Diego State University (SDSU). Working in conjunction with SDSU administrators like Chief Diver- sity Officer and Dr. Aaron I. Bruce (San Diego (CA) Alumni 2011) the brothers served on several planning committees over the course of a 2017 and 2018 to bring the BRC to life. Dr. Bruce noted that the stellar leadership of Brothers Chimezie O. Ebiriekwe (Delta Epsilon 2015), William C. Carter (Delta Epsilon 2014) and Nnagozie P. Odeluga (Delta Epsilon 2016) were pivotal in the process of establishing this important center.

Brother Odeluga serves as Presi- dent of the Student African American Brotherhood (SAAB). Brother William Carter noted that the center serves as an important space for the empowerment, recruitment and retention of African American students, faculty and staff. University President Sally Roush said the Black Resource Center “demon- strates how students are continuing our tradition of leadership and excellence.” Harold K. Brown, (Delta Epsilon 1957) shared brilliant remarks on behalf of the alumni at the Center’s grand opening connecting the past to the present. He noted it was wonderful to see such dedication to achievement. Plans are already under way to introduce generations of Delta Epsilon alumni to

Delta Epsilon was chartered on Mon- day, March 26, 1951 as the first and only Black Fraternity on the San Diego State University campus for over 20 years. It's chapter history is comprised of brothers who were active in the Civil Rights Movement. Some initiates have gone on to be federal judges and local elected leaders and continue to serve as an inspiration to the community. In terms of other achievements, Delta Epsilon enjoys the highest grade point average in the National Pan-Hellenic Council. The Chapter garnered Runner- up status for the Western Province Chapter of the Year Award and is the winner of the Sterling Dover Scrapbook of the Year Award.
