Police remind ATV riders that they are subject to all traffic laws when on public roads, including those related to impaired driving. ATV riders must wear helmets at all times, use a licensed vehicle, and not have passengers riding with them. —

Whether or not Prescott-Russell’s public transit project continues to run may depend on the opinion of the provincial government. The future for the PR Transpo project was one of the main topics for discussion during the June 24 session of the United Counties of Prescott-Russell’s (UCPR) eco- OPNJD EFWFMPQNFOU DPNNJUUFF8BSEFO Pierre Leroux, who sits on all of the UCPR’s advisory committees, expressed concern about whether the regional transit system will prove financially viable. “I have my doubts that a private operator will be willing to take it over,” Leroux said. Both Alfred-Plantagenet Mayor Stéphane Sarrazin, who chairs the economic deve- lopment committee, and Casselman Mayor Daniel Lafleur, who sits on it, expressed optimism about the future viability and need for PR Transpo. The UCPR received a provincial govern- ment transportation fund grant to finance a four-year pilot project for rural public transit. The province is funding similar pilot projects in other communities. One of the goals of the projects is to determine if there is sufficient demand for rural public transit to make it viable enough to attract the interest of the private sector. The original plan for the PR Transpo pro- ject was to have it in operation last summer in time to benefit from the tourism trade. But unforeseen planning delays saw the regional transit system roll out the beginning of last October instead. PR Transpo operated for about five mon- ths before the COVID-19 pandemic situation resulted in its suspension. Carole Lavigne, UCPR economic development director, noted during a later interview that the ridership

The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario (CDSBE0) again offers summer online learning programs for students. Parents of students in Kinder- garten to Grade 8 can enroll their child- ren in online home-learning programs to improve their reading and mathematics skills. The CDSBEO also has five new “reach ahead” programs for students who enter Grade 9 in the next term. High school-level upgrade programs in math, science, and English are also available, and the CDSBEO is surveying teaching staff at its schools about what other online summer learning programs might be useful. – Gregg Chamberlain PANDEMIC TOURISM AID Tourisme Prescott-Russell Tourism will receive $100,112.50 from the Tourism Industry Association of Ontario’s Regional Relief and Recovery Fund (RRRF). The money will assist with post- pandemic support of Prescott-Russell’s tourism sector. The RRRF money can go towards marketing and other efforts to encourage tourism traffic in the region as part of Phase Two of the Ontario Economic Restart plan and prepare for Phase Three – Gregg Chamberlain

Le bureau principal des CUPR, rue Court à L’Orignal, est fermé, tout le personnel travaillant à domicile, depuis le début de la pandémie COVID-19 au printemps. Avec le début du plan de relance économique du gouvernement provincial pour l’Ontario, quelques membres du personnel sont main- tenant de retour au bureau, mais l’accès est toujours fermé au grand public, à une exception près. Pour le canton de Hawkesbury-Est, les résidents peuvent appliquer leurs propres mesures de conservation de l’eau en fonction de leurs besoins. Actuellement, le canton de Champlain n’a mis en place aucune ordonnance de conservation de l’eau. C’est aussi le cas de Casselman et d’Alfred-Plantagenet.
Un peu de pluie et un ciel nuageux ont peut-être interrompu la canicule dans Prescott-Russell, mais des ordonnances de conservation de l’eau sont toujours en vigueur dans certaines municipalités. À la Nation, une règlementation adoptée le 22 juin dernier mentionne que désormais, les résidents ne pourront pas utiliser l’eau d’un système municipal pour arroser les parterres, jardins, fleurs, haies ou autres végétaux du 1er mai au 30 septembre. L’arrosage manuel est toutefois permis en tout temps. Des périodes d’exception prédéfinies seront toutefois établies. Ainsi, les per- sonnes habitant des immeubles pairs peuvent procéder à l’arrosage les lundi, mercredi et vendredi entre 19h et 22h, alors que celles habitant des immeubles impairs peuvent le faire les mardi, jeudi et samedi, toujours de 19h à 22h. Quant à l’interdiction complète de l’usage de l’eau à l’extérieur à Limoges, une exception permet d’arroser manuellement les arbres, arbustes, fleurs et jardins. Par ailleurs, le jeu d’eau à Limoges demeure ouvert, mais seulement de 12h à 18h et avec des jets d’eau réduits. Clarence-Rockland Pour ce qui est de la Cité de Clarence- Rockland, elle a mis en vigueur sa politique de conservation de l’eau à partir du 19 juin. Les responsables de la ville demandent aux résidents de réduire autant que possible l’utilisation du système municipal d’eau afin de s’assurer qu’il y ait une réserve suffisante sous pression dans le réservoir pour être utilisé par le service d’incendie en cas d’urgence. Dans le cadre de l’ordonnance sur la conservation de l’eau, l’arrosage mécanique des pelouses et des jardins est désormais totalement interdit. Les jardiniers amateurs sont encouragés à arroser leur jardin à la main plutôt qu’avec un arroseur, et à le faire tôt le matin ou en début de soirée, lorsque le temps est plus frais et que les plantes peuvent absorber plus rapidement l’eau du sol avant qu’elle ne s’évapore. Les aires d’arrosage de la ville conti- nueront à fonctionner, mais avec moins de structures d’arrosage qu’à l’habitude. Les fontaines décoratives municipales sont éga- lement fermées pour la durée de l’opération, et le personnel municipal ne lavera aucun des véhicules municipaux. Les résidents peuvent également contri- buer à réduire la demande sur le réseau d’eau municipal en limitant l’utilisation des lave-vaisselles et des machines à laver auto- matiques, et en n’utilisant pas l’eau pour des besoins non essentiels comme le nettoyage des allées ou le lavage des véhicules. deserts and abundant wilderness, Canada provides more opportunities to get away from it all than just about anywhere else. 4. SLANG In addition to their regional accents, Cana- dians use terms and idioms that’re all their own. Where else can you say, “I’m going to put on my toque, drive a few clicks down the road and pick up a two-four”? 5. SNACK FOODS FromNanaimo bars and butter tarts to pou- tine and donairs, Canada is home to some of the best snack foods out there. Our choco- late bars are also second to none. In fact, Coffee Crisp, Smarties, Mr. Big, Aero and Caramilk can only be found on Canadian shelves. Additionally, dill pickle and ket- chup chips are unique to Canada. • It wasn’t translated until 1908 The English version was originally written by the Honourable Robert Stanley Weir. Since then, it’sundergone a few changes, including the addition of a fourth, more religious verse in 1926 and another change to make the anthem gender neutral in 2018.
