and iron front doors create a stunning focal point. The stone has a genuine, worn quality that makes the house stand out from neighboring homes, and the heavy, front doors introduce the arched theme repeated throughout the house. Walking inside, you notice a colonnade of arches gracefully outlining the dining room while a French blue ceiling further accentuates the space. Directly across from you as you enter is an area Kim jokingly refers to as “the parlor.” This formal space is accented with rich custom velvet drapery, gilded mirrors and beautiful wooden beams. Two dark blue velvet sofas flank each side of the room. In keeping with the atmosphere of the room, Kim and Randall hired Texarkana native, Tyler Arnold to create a painting in old Renaissance style but with more vibrant colors for a modern feel. Because of their love of Arnold’s artwork, Kim also has a portrait by him of Abraham Lincoln in her office. As you move from one area of the house to another, arched cased openings, tall wooden baseboards and hand-scraped wooden floors guide you while elegant chandeliers light your way. Kim attributes the small decorative details to the help she got from Kyle Barrett, especially when selecting light fixtures. “I would think, ‘Oh, I like that,’ and Kyle would say, ‘Kim, that’s way too small.’ Then we would pick out a light fixture, and he would say, ‘I promise this is the right size.’ I would think to myself, ‘This is going to be way too big,’ and then once it was up, it was perfect.” Entering the master suite, you are first greeted by large pictures of both of the Glass’ sons as toddlers, with wide grins and blonde curls. They are perfectly highlighted by unique sconces. The bedroom holds a mix of old and new furniture, including a family piano. The arched theme continues through two symmetrically placed wooden doors. The soft French blue is repeated all around the space in decorative accents, including a hand-crafted Walker Zanger tile in the master bathroom. On the other side of the house is the kitchen, breakfast area, a casual dining space and a second living room. These spaces hold the same cozy Tuscan feel through the use of warm wood tones and soft blue. Just off the kitchen area are the stairs to the boys’ bedrooms. Tucked in beside the stairs is a

T he rich Tuscan architecture of Kim and Dr. Randall Glass’ family home feels perfectly situated above rolling farmland and grazing cattle. One of the most endearing aspects of this architectural style is its ability to combine traditional, formal elements with warm and rustic qualities. “I have always been really drawn to the Tuscan style. I looked for plans for over a year. We’d even had an architect draw plans, but they just weren’t what we wanted,” explained Kim. “And one day, while searching online, I was just like, ‘Oh, my gosh, that is what is in my head!’ I think one thing I like about our house is that it is a little deceiving; it looks small on the outside, but when you walk in, it keeps going. It looks cozy.” Kim continued, saying they almost didn’t build this house.

“We had thought about building something smaller, but before we built it, we thought ‘Let’s go ahead if we can… Let’s do it all now, and that way our kids can enjoy it while they’re little,” she said. Randall added, “We’re going to live in this area, and that house; we built it just like we wanted it. It’s got a spot for everything we need. Not to mention, we’re raising our kids in that house; it would make it hard to ever leave. I think we’ll be there forever.” Inside and out, the Glass home stays very true to vernacular Tuscan architecture. The exterior of the home combines stucco and stone accented by brick. The home also has a traditional terracotta tile roof and accents made of metal and dark tongue-and-groove ceilings. Pulling up to the house, the two-story stone entryway
