“I am so amazed at how generous this community is,” said Madeleine Berthelot. “It’s just incredible how kind everyone is. People come and give 10- and 20-dollar bills, or drop all their change in the jar. It has been great.” At Giant Tiger Friday, November 27, the Hawkesbury Food Bank truck was on site collecting groceries fromhelpful shoppers. In return, shoppers could enter a contest to win a $100 gift card fromGiant Tiger. “People give a lot,” said Jacques Berthelot. Berthelot was expecting the truck to be filled by the time they were finished collecting on Friday at 3 p.m. The Hawkesbury Central Food Bank is located at 548 Main Street and takes dona- tions throughout the year. Christmas Baskets will be delivered to those who are on the list on December 18 and 19. More information can be found by calling the Food Bank at 613-636-0666.

The Hawkesbury Central Food Bank was at Laurin Your Independent Grocer and Giant Tiger over the weekend, collecting food and donations for the holiday season. “We have about 350 Christmas baskets to prepare this year,” said Madeleine Berthe- lot, president of the Food Bank. “This is our annual fundraiser with the Bank of Nova Scotia who matches whatever we raise, up to $5,000.” More than 30 volunteers were helping customers bag their groceries at Inde- pendent, in order to raise funds for the food bank, which supplies families in need with food, not only during the holidays but all year through. “$5,000 isn’t a lot of money when it comes to the Food Bank,” said Jacques Ber- thelot, one of the volunteers. “We have a lot of families to take care of and we appreciate all the help.”

The Christmas elves are back For more than 25 years, Valoris has brought the magic of Christmas to vulnerable children of Pres- cott-Russell through the Christmas Elves Campaign. Valoris is asking for the support and generosity of the community to help ensure every child receives a gift on Christmas morning. Christmas trees are set up in every Valoris service centre, as well as in several businesses in Prescott-Russell. Select an ornament with the name of a child or teen and return your gift under the tree. New items such as gift certificates, games, toys, clothing, and books, or money donations can also be dropped off at any Valoris service centre. Christmas Elves are available at various locations in Casselman, Embrun, Russell, Hawkesbury, Rockland, Bourget, St-Isidore, Alfred and Plantagenet.
