But he noted that he wants to focus as a Ward 2 councillor on issues that provide immedi- ate and long-term benefit both to Clarence- Rockland at large and his own area. “I see great potential in Ward 2,” he said. “It’s a ward that I have real close inmy heart.”
“I don’t see the point in spending time and money and energy on things we have no control over.” Bernard is still working out all the spe-
ROCKLAND | Alain “Raz” Bernard wants to help calm the chaos keeping council split apart and unable to work for the benefit of the City of Clarence-Rockland. Bernard, 55, has filed his nomination pa- pers as a candidate for the Ward 2 seat of incumbent Coun. André Henrie. The Rock- land resident noted that he’s always been thinking about doing a term on council and feels the time is right now for him. “I almost did run in 2010, but I was not quite ready at the time,” he said during a phone interview. “I think I am ready now.” Bernardworks as a construction firmman- ager and feels that he can put his manage- ment skills to good use in helping restore order and calm to city affairs. “I want to help bring a unified council back to the table,”he said, adding that fight- ing and rancor among council members is
Arts council inaugural
PLANTAGENET | The end of March will see the official launch of the new regional arts council. Members of the Prescott-Russell Arts Council (PRAC) host their first meeting March 27, 6:30 p.m., at the Champlain Motel Restaurant in Plantagenet. The group has the official backing of the United Counties of Prescott-Russell (UCPR). “The counties are prepared to fund the council’s creation this year,” said Jean-Paul
St-Pierre, UCPR warden, “and, as regional mayors, we are seeking a strong sense of civic engagement to promote arts and cul- ture as broadly as possible.” Both the federal and provincial govern- ments and the Prescott-Russell Community Development Corp. have provided financial aid towards creation of a regional arts coun- cil for Prescott-Russell. The PRAC is the result of several weeks of public consultations through the two coun- ties regarding the need for and responsi- bilities of a regional arts council. A member recruitment campaign followed to bring on board both individuals and groups with an interest in promoting and preserving a vi- brant arts and culture sector in the region. The inaugural meeting will see election of the first nine-member board of directors for the group and further exchange of ideas and feedback on the mandate for the new regional cultural organization.
one of the biggest problems the city faces for its future development. “Right now it’s the division at the table, and the loss of time and energy. The energy isn’t spent productively. We cannot seem to get productive work done by our council.” He noted that the present and past coun- cils have accomplished some good things.
