Day 5: La Fortuna Learn about the secrets and history of chocolate production, from cacao pods to ceremonial drinks and confectionery bars, on this morning’s Rainforest Chocolate Tour. Later take a gentle hike through the volcanic landscape to the El Silencio look-out point for spectacular views of the volcanic slopes. Day 6: La Fortuna to Monterverde Skirt Lake Arenal and into Monteverde’s cloud forests. Spend two nights amid lush, dense forests; home to an array of birds including the quetzal and rare jaguars and pumas. Enjoy an afternoon excursion to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, then rest and relax at the hotel later.

Day 1: UK to Costa Rica Fly to San Jose, the friendly, cosmopolitan capital of Costa Rica. Meet your tour manager and transfer to your hotel, then rest and relax after your journey. Day 2: San Jose to Tortuguero Early morning journey through the Braulio Carrillo National Park to Cano Blanco or Pavona pier to board a canal boat to Tortuguero National Park. Spend two nights in the exotic rainforest paradise of Mawamba Lodge; home to turtles, monkeys, manatees, and 375 bird species. Day 3: Tortuguero Breakfast is followed by a full-day tour of the park; home to monkeys, manatees, sloths, caimans, turtles, toucan, macaws, iguanas, and lizards. Perhaps dine at the lodge’s floating restaurant later. Optional: Early morning tour through the backwater canals with an expert guide. Day 4: Tortuguero to La Fortuna Journey back through the rainforest by boat and cross the Costa Rican lowlands by coach to La Fortuna for a two-night stay with views of the majestic Arenal volcano. Day 7: Monteverde Follow the 1.9km trail over eight bridges through the lush rainforest canopy of Selvatura Park. Visit the Hummingbird Garden and the Butterfly Garden. Enjoy lunch and then return to the hotel for your last evening. Optional: Ride Selvatura Park’s 15 zip lines through the cloud-forest canopy Day 8: Monteverde to San Jose to UK After breakfast, you’ll return to the airport to board your overnight flight back to the UK.
