FAQs

How long do we have for the burial? We schedule all burials to ensure that you have all the privacy and time you require. Can I place flowers on the grave? Any flowers placed on the graves will be removed once they start to show signs of deterioration. However, we ask you to keep these to a minimum and ask that they are kept as natural as possible. Only fresh cut flowers without ribbon or cellophane are allowed. Please do not use oasis or any plastics, nor tie cards or other memorabilia to trees. Vases, jars or containers can not be left on the grave. Can dogs go into the wood? Well-behaved dogs on a short lead are welcome. Please respect the graves and clean up any mess. We also ask you to keep dogs on a lead when on the public footpath. Do you have catering facilities? Catering is available by pre-order. Give us a call on 01513 272 360 for more details. Is the burial ground regulated? We are a member of the FBCA (Federation of Burial and Cremation Authorities) and ICCM (The Institue of Cemetery and Crematorium Management), which are set out to raise the standards for bereaved people through the promotion of best practice, guidance, accredited training and education.

Do I have to use a funeral director? A: We recommend one for a full burial or cremation service. For a memorial service or ashes interment, you can arrange it yourself through Mayfields Woodland Burial Ground. What type of coffin, casket or urn is acceptable? All coffins, caskets and urns must be biodegradable. Is embalming permitted? While we encourage natural burials and therefore prefer that bodies are not embalmed, embalming is accepted. Please contact us to discuss this further. Is the ground consecrated? No, any faith can be buried here and it does not matter where you live, the charges are the same. However, individual graves can be blessed at the time of burial. Do I have to live locally? You don’t have to live within the local area to rest at Mayfields; we are available to all – no matter where you live. What sort of memorial or marker is allowed? We have a very strict policy that only allows bronze memorial plaques, ordered through Mayfields. Any other marker will be removed immediately.
