ASPIRATIONS FOR GROWTH IN 2019 WHAT WE’VE LEARNED AND WHAT WE HOPE TO ACHIEVE

A s you may remember from last year’s New Year's cover, my family is committed to making and sticking to New Year’s resolutions. Together, we brainstorm and discuss goals for the new year. Then we create vision boards to hang in our bedrooms or offices that motivate us to work toward them. My wife and I believe this is a simple way to instill good habits in our three daughters and give them some independence while still encouraging smart goals. I’m happy to report that all three girls met their goals this year! Natalie made the gymnastics team, Lindsay and her soccer team went undefeated, and Paige took piano and voice lessons. (To learn more about the progress with my personal goal for 2018, check out Page 2 of this newsletter!) As a business owner, my resolutions extend beyond my personal life; I have plenty of goals for Liberty Inspection Group in 2019. I want to see our business grow 30–40 percent in 2019, and I hope to make the Philadelphia 100 again. We’ve made it onto the list of Philadelphia’s 100 fastest-growing companies for the past two years, and I see no reason to break that trend. Part of the company’s projected growth will come as a result of an emphasis on our commercial inspections. While we prioritize our home inspection service and feel a personal responsibility to each real estate agent, homeowner, and prospective buyer we help, we know we can extend our knowledge and care to

inspection guidelines and are qualified to inspect property using the latest technology.

I’m not writing this as some big advertising

campaign designed to drum up large quantities of commercial business — although, I wouldn’t complain if that happened. I’m writing this to be honest about our goals at Liberty Inspection Group and to show we are committed to providing services we believe will genuinely help our clients. We know we have the expertise, but we also understand that we have to be flexible and adapt to rapidly changing industry trends. A growing number of homeowners are becoming more meticulous and have been calling us directly for a home inspection. The scope of inspections is changing, too; it’s rare to get a call for just a home inspection. Instead, we get asked to do radon screenings, well tests, termite inspections, mold tests, and more. We strive to develop one-on-one connections with these homeowners so we can deliver service catered to their needs. We’re excited to adapt in this ever-changing industry. Homeowners are taking a serious interest in the quality of their homes, and real estate agents are looking to provide exceptional experiences for their buyers and sellers. Thank you for trusting us to serve you in 2018, and we look forward to gaining that trust from more clients in 2019.

Great Books with GOODREADS How a Digital Platform is Connecting Readers Across The Globe

At the beginning of 2018, my goal was to read one book each week. As the year went on, that number dwindled to where I read a book about every other week, totaling 26 books for the year. But the great part about goal setting is that it’s adaptable. If you boil down what I was hoping to accomplish, you learn that I just wanted to read more in 2018 — and I did! I shifted my goal, gained a ton of knowledge, and I’ve acquired a handy new tool to help me: Goodreads. Goodreads is a large-scale book and reading social-networking site, founded by a husband and wife duo. The website allows you to connect with your friend’s bookshelves in a worldwide book club with an ever-expanding library, and you can even download the app to take Goodreads on the go. Users can follow what others are reading, learn more about prospective books they want to check out, read what others are saying about the proclaimed newest bestseller, and use their expertise and opinions to help other readers learn more about a book by offering reviews and ratings. According to Goodreads, the platform also uses 20 billion data points to give suggestions for new books that are primed just for your interests. “Highly recommend! Tyler was fantastic to work with and as thorough as it gets on my townhouse inspection. No detail was missed and a ton of money was saved thanks to his well-trained eye and attention to detail. The seller is taking care of these mostly minor repairs that could have amounted to a lot more than expected and been easily overlooked had Tyler not pointed them all out on his report. He taught me a ton about home maintenance/procedures and was invaluable in my home buying process. Thanks Tyler and Liberty!" -Heather F. “Tyler was awesome. I honestly never thought I would be so happy with a home inspection that I would actually leave a review, but wow, you guys. He was so detailed and easy to talk to. He was upfront and honest, and God bless him for having to deal with the cobwebs in the attic and basement.” –Aubrey S. OUR CUSTOMERS SAY IT BEST

The part about Goodreads I enjoyed the most was seeing what people from my

circle were reading. I have some friends who are crushing their goals and creating great lives for themselves, and as a seeker of knowledge, I want to know what they are reading, learning, and

doing. Goodreads helps me do that, and as both a personal consumer of books and a business owner, I’ve found it immensely helpful. I’m learning what other professionals in the industry are reading, what stories old friends have found intriguing, and books that I didn’t realize could relate to my interests. Despite cutting my 2018 goal in half, I learned more than I could have anticipated. Goodreads has connected me with a new way to learn, and I’m excited to see my bookshelf expand. If you take the dive into Goodreads this year, follow me! I’d love to see what books you’re getting lost in.

WELL, WELL, WELL

UNDERSTANDING THE BENEFITS OF WATER WELL TESTING

When purchasing property, a key component to consider is the quality of the water. While well water is a hydration option that provides many nutritional and monetary benefits, its quality must be maintained and tested regularly. Whether you’re purchasing a new property, looking to sell, or interested in maintaining a healthy well, regular inspections ensure peace of mind, catch any possible issues, and help foster a well both Timmy and Lassie would be proud of (different kind of well, same goal). Just like city water is required to be regularly tested, your private well should be monitored consistently. Some loan lenders even require regular testing as a condition of the loan, and for homeowners who live in agricultural communities or in close proximity to waste areas, testing is imperative. There are two aspects of testing that determine if a well is healthy. First, a water quality test will show the mineral makeup of the water and check for any contaminants. If a test comes back positive for contaminants, don’t panic. They can often be mitigated with an updated filtration system or another simple change.

The second component is a flow test, which allows the inspector to determine the rate at which the well provides a steady flow of water. This rate indicates whether or not the well can supply enough water to sustain a home — something homeowners and sellers need to consider. When testing your well, keep its age in mind. Older wells and pumps will do worse in these tests than their newer counterparts due to normal wear and tear. While they still may function safely, we recommend working with a reputable maintenance

company to ensure that your well provides safe and healthy water.

Commit to healthier water in 2019 and see how Liberty Inspection Group can help monitor your well quality by contacting us at 610.717.3082.

W H O ’ S R E A D Y F O R S O M E P O W D E R ? 3 OF THE WORLD’S GREATEST WINTER SPORT DESTINATIONS

The sound of the first carve through fresh powder is the anthem of all winter sports enthusiasts. Here are three of the world’s best places to experience that powder you’ve been craving all year. Breckenridge, Colorado John Denver’s anthem “Rocky Mountain high” was about the freedom he felt here. Where there are great mountains, there’s even better snow. The ski resort boasts five peaks, 187 trails, 34 lifts, four terrain parks, and a renowned cross-country trail. After a day on the slopes, head into the town of Breckenridge for dining and activities that ditch the glitz and glamour of Vail or Aspen and take you straight to the heart of fun. Whistler, British Columbia, Canada A destination that looks like a cross between a Nordic paradise and Olympic-level runs, Whistler is filled with true magic, winter activities, and a town that captivates the senses. When you see the mountains of British Columbia, you’ll understand why they hosted the 2010 Winter Olympics. The location’s beauty is only part of your

stimulating experience, because every curve of fresh powder makes your pupils dilate. Once you’re done flying down the hill where Bode Miller took the bronze, head over to the

winter wonderland of the old Olympic Village for a cozy night in a picturesque town.

St. Anton, Austria If you want a great location for next year’s Christmas card photo, there’s no better place than the Tyrolean Alps. Nestled in a valley between perfectly molded mountains, the Austrian landscape provides a beautiful backdrop for your winter excursions. The densely wooded areas and the bright reflection of the snow frame the vibrant town that’s just waiting to be explored. When you’re ready for world-class runs, hop in one of the 11 gondolas and zip down the hills that hosted the 2001 Alpine World Ski Championships.
