Principal Accountabilities

This is a key role within the University requiring strong collaboration across a broad spectrum of internal and external stakeholders. The post holder will deliver strategic planning level leadership whilst also ensuring sound operational management plans are established and monitored. The key areas of responsibility will be the review, refinement and ongoing effective management of the University wide Security Management Framework.

The main responsibilities of the Campus Head of Security are: • Deliver an effective and professional security service that recognises the needs of staff and the wider community and supports excellent student experience.

• Act as the University’s proactive specialist adviser on Security Management and review, refine and manage the Security Management Framework (SMF).

• Ensure effective security management practice is deployed and embraced across all areas of the University.

• Ensure all elements of the security comply within current legal and statutory obligations.

• Ensure compliance with the Prevent Statutory Duty and undertake the role of Prevent Lead for the University. Act as the professional lead in advising relevant senior staff in the University (including but not limited to the Chief Operating Officer, University Registrar and Director of Estates, Facilities and Capital Development) in discharging their leadership and management responsibilities for these activities.

• Be responsible for, reporting through the Assistant Director of Facilities, all strategic planning, financial and budget management and deployment of staffing resources for campus security.

• Keep abreast of new standards and best practice with regard to security and recommend how they can be used to further the University’s strategic aims.

• Continually gather intelligence and advise the University on possible threats to its activities and on suitable measures to address the risks.

• Take a lead role across the University, as directed, in terms of response to Emergencies and Critical Incidents.
