The role

Key Tasks

• Advise, develop and deliver training and awareness programmes in respect of security management issues.

• Review of the University’s current Security Management Framework (SMF) and the policies, procedures and guidelines that underpin it, making any changes as required and ensuring these are then embedded in operational practice. • Ensure that an inclusive approach is taken regarding security management, involving both internal and external stakeholders as appropriate. • Develop and maintain the annual security management implementation plan and regular progress reporting systems. • Apply risk management techniques to security management and ensure accurate records are maintained.

• Review and analyse incidents on an ongoing basis to identify trends.

• Lead the Security team at a time of significant change. Be a professional, positive and respected role model. Ensure the team is capable, competent and delivering optimum value for money. Ensure best practice is captured, shared and embedded.

• Promote the Department’s activities and reputation internally and nationally.

Prevent

• Develop and Support the Prevent Framework for the University, coordinating and delivering training on both Prevent and Counter Terrorism for staff. • Undertake the role of Prevent Safeguarding Officer for the University and be the lead contact for all Prevent related inquiries, including within the University, and with the emergency services and other external agencies. • Provide related professional advice concerning external speakers and freedom of speech, as well as potential impacts on other University activities.

• Identify any security threats to the University and provide expert advice on the appropriate response.

• Be available at any time, including out of hours, to either attend or provide advice to the University Executive in relation to security and sensitive issues. • Act as an expert adviser to local Police, other emergency services and security contractors on all matters relating to University security matters.

• Contribute to the University’s Major Incident Plan.

• Ensure the security team are managed effectively; the service complies with all University policies and procedures and further ensure they implement their agreed roles/responsibilities within University plans (for example the Fire Management Plan).

• Build effective security management communication strategies.

• Ensure incidents are investigated in a fair, objective and professional manner.

• Establish and promote measures to support crime reduction, and to tackle violence and aggression. Direct investigation of all incidents of physical assault and non-physical assault.

• Direct the investigation of all incidents of theft, trespass, criminal damage or any other property
