Head of Estates Engineering This is a description of the job as at January 2019. Estates Engineering Team Miscellaneous

• As Head of Estates Engineering, you will lead the Estates Engineering function, which is responsible for planned and statutory maintenance of engineering, building services systems and infrastructure assets.

• You will ensure that engineering assets, equipment and associated systems within the estate are maintained to a high and compliant standard and provide evidence/systems to support this. • Promoting h gh levels f customer are w thin your own areas of work. • Develop and maintain an Engineering Strategy to ensure the safe, compliant, sustainable and future focused management of our University buildings including the forward preparation of resource budgets to support the capital programme, including support for life cycle costs You are responsible for applying the University’s Equality and Diversity Policy in your own area of responsibility and in your general conduct. • Promoting public engagement as a key element of community involvement. • Deliver efficient maintenance contracts in a cost effective manner and make the most efficient use of finance and resources, including the priorisation of backlog maintenance investment and asset life cycle replacement. • Ensure the Engineering function has the right people, competencies, skills and ways of working to deliver effective services for the business including the the development and delivery of robust training plans. You are expected to co-operate with the PDR pro ess, engaging in the setting of objectives in order to assist in the onitoring of performance and the development of the individual. • Supporting and engaging in the University’s drive for continuous improv ment hrough people man gement and developme t. • Assessing the training and development needs of each member of departmental staff to ensure they are adequately supported in relation to their work responsibilities. • Ensure all analysis and reporting associated with Estates Engineering is managed effectively and timely and contributed to systematic efficiency improvements. You will assess the training and development needs of each member of staff under your control to ensure they are adequately supported in relation to their work responsibilities. • Promoting and engaging in the University’s strategy and actions on environmental sustainability. • You will work in partnership with all other departments across the Estates, Facilities and Capital Projects Directorate and the wider University, to ensure the Directorate operates as one team, delivering a professional, seamless and high-quality service to our customers and stakeholders. Such other relevant duties commensurate with the grade of the post as may be assigned by the Manager in agreement with you. Such agreement should not be unreasonably withheld. You are expected to engage with the PDR process in relation to the setting of your own objectives with your manager to assist in the monitoring of your performance. In addition, you are expected to deliver the PDR process for your departmental staff and set appropriate objectives to assist in performance monitoring and the development of the individual. You have a responsibility to promote high levels of customer care within your own areas of work.

You may be required to undertake a specific Health & Safety role, commensurate with your grade, to support the University in meeting its statutory Health & Safety obligations. This could include acting as a DSE Assessor, First Aider, Fire Marshall or Departmental Safety Co-ordinator. The allocation of such roles will be subject to the provision of appropriate training and assessment of competence.

Such other relevant duties commensurate with the grade of the post as may be assigned by the Manager in agreement with you. Such agreement should not be unreasonably withheld.
