and to walk in “newness of life” (Rom. 6:1-5). The third part of Christ’s program for the world and for our country is that of instruction. He commanded His disciples to teach believers the Word of God. It is at this point that some churches fail. Souls are won to Christ but they are not built up in the holy faith. The church is obligated to every new-born believer to see to it that he grows in the grace and knowledge of Christ (Eph. 4:11-16). The textbook, and the only textbook of the church is the Word of God (2 Tim. 3:15-17). New Christians are to be taught the entire Word of God. Everything Christ taught is to be taught to every believer (v. 20a). New Christians are to be taught obedience to Christ—“ teaching them to observe [do] all things whatsoever I have commanded you.” It is not enough just to know the Bible; the believer is to obey it! (James 1:22-25; Matt. 7:21-23). The Presence of Christ During This Mission v. 20b Our Lord has promised to be with His church always, “ even unto the end of the world [age].” Christ will never leave His servants when they seek to accomplish His purpose in the world. Every follower of Christ can count on the Divine Presence with him. Note that His promise is for this entire age. We are glad that He said “ even unto the end of the age” because we know that the end times are going to be hard times (1 Tim. 4:1-6; 2 Tim. 3:1-5; 4:1-4).
