K&B On-Site Vocational School Celebrates 150 Years Some 200 guests, staff and pupils celebrated the 150th anniversary of the Koenig & Bauer on-site vo- cational school in Würzburg, Germany, on July 6, 2018. Initially founded to train Franconian winegrow- ers to work in the factory, today the school is the company’s modern “talent factory”.The close link be- tween theory and practice was a successful model that made history: in 1868 Koenig & Bauer set up the world’s first in-house vocational school to establish dual apprenticeships long before state vocational schools took off.“As a new-generation teaching facili- ty, today the vocational training school prepares to- morrow’s skilled workers for the challenges of a digitalized world,” said Claus Bolza-Schünemann, pres- ident and CEO of Koenig & Bauer at the ceremony in Würzburg. Since its foundation on July 2, 1868, well more than 7,000 people have taken the first steps in their pro- fessional careers at the vocational school. In its an- niversary year, it is responsible for the qualification of 120 apprentices.
